Where else would he get to lead a GC?
Honestly, probably quite a lot of teams. I think it's only Visma and UAE, maybe Red Bull, where he wouldn't get a look in for any GT.

He'd be the best or second best GC rider at Soudal, Ineos, Lidl, Bahrain, etc

I see he is now listed for the Vuelta. Maybe he will be form an epic battle against Del Toro.

He was destined to be the best GC rider not on the picture. If he does the Vuelta it will be interesting to see how he copes with the second GT of the season. In recent years only Roglic, and to a lesser extent Almeida and O'Connor have been competitive at the Vuelta and the Giro in the same season.

Lidl-Trek would be the best fit, but I don't think he'd be above Ciccone in the internal pecking order even if he should be.

I don't know if he speaks French, but he seems pretty oriented toward English and as a Canadian obvs IPT is a perfect fit. It's too bad they threw away so much money at Froome/Fuglsang etc. I guess Ineos could work since it’s obvious Bernal isn’t a GC contender anymore.

But, yeah, he needs to maximize his earning potential right now. I actually don't think staying at IPT would be a terrible move provided they can surround him with a decent team. He doesn’t seem to need a bunch of lightweight climbers around him.

Maybe a big team could eke a few more watts and give him better TT equipment and wind tunnel data.

Do you see him getting on a GT podium? I see a respectable collection of 4th to 10th spots his future.

You could have done without that pointless jab at Bernal.

But for the rest I have to agree, I think his TT setup could be better as he should be really good (even better) at them.

Even when it made no tactical sense to pace the two guys he could still overtake on GC?
Gee is a diesel, he just needs one steady pace. He was just doing a time trial to the top. That's the fastest way for him. To sit on the wheel while they're doing track stands and then watch them sprint away would be slower.

Well, he should‘ve tried to attack them and hoped that they stare each other off the mountain at least once. It‘s not about having the fastest possible time, but about a faster time than the others. Everyone goes the fastest at a steady pace.

It wasn’t a pointless jab. He’s not a GC contender any more, through no fault of his own. Thus Ineos needs another GC rider to go with Rodriguez and maybe Remco…

He isn't? I thought his level in the first half of the Giro was very promising. He did break his collarbone earlier in the year though, must have hampered his preparation and maybe caused him to fall off a bit toward the end.

Gee has 3 more years on his contract with Israel PT so if, as rumoured, Ineos have bought him out then it'll be costly.
