Brennan should not have been so far back, but it is for sure a relegation for van Poppel in my opinion.

However unfortunately for Brennan a DSQ will help Waerenskjold way more than Brennan.
Yeah, I kept wondering why he was so far back. They keep saying that Wout is teaching him how to do these things...I worry that may be the proglem...

Agreeing with everyone who is saying that Brennan should have been on or maybe 1 person behind Wout's wheel. If he'd been there, he wins by a bike length or more.

That bit wasn't really his fault. Van Aert went to the front just after the bonus sprint, possibly hoping to force a split or something. Did he think he was going to do a 3k leadout?
Why not? The group was small and no one was in a hurry to overtake him, so he could take it slow and steady on the front. It gave Brennan a lot of time to move up and slot in behind him.

If this doesn't qualify as a relegation, I really don't understand the rules
It's also made a little easier and more obvious by all the white stripes on the road, Van Poppel deviates 2,3 times in not so many meters, if he doesn't get relegated he should at least be tested for drunk driving with all that swerving!!

Exactly. Don't know why it took so long to decide.

Yeah, you might be right. There definitely didn't seem to be any communication between the two as to tactics, and Brennan seemed pretty unaware of when the finish line was coming?
