The police are big boys and do stuff independently of ASO. They had the information from a telephone tap - possibly some time ago - and presumably wanted to do a raid to gather physical evidence (and perhaps to see who else they could net). The rest day is one of the most likely days to pick up evidence (and they could just possibly have been looking to minimise disruption to the Tour). But I doubt the timing was stage managed for press purposes.

Taaramäe wrote in his blog that he didn't even know that Di Gregorio was taken away by police. In team training he wondered where Remy is but thought maybe he's training alone today. Later on in the meeting riders were informed what had happened. People were shocked and few even cried cause no one expected anything like that from Di Gregorio.

Rein also wrote that his room probably wasn't searched cause, with his own words "it's as messy as it was last night"

In the end he hopes that team will continue (as we know by now they will) riding in tour and thanked all the supporters.

It has a lot of credibility. There is an extremely high likelihood that anyone with a 5 or higher is doping. That doesn't prove that anyone with a lower number is clean, just that their blood values at that time weren't suspicious. It has little relevance for the Di Gregorio case, he became a suspect in 2011, the list is from 2010, and it looks like he is suspected of buying steroids, something that wouldn't show up on that list.

Because the biological pasport has a large margin of error. To avoid false positives only the most extreme cases can be prosecuted.

That they know who is doping but aren't able to catch them (yet) is nothing new. The only difference is that because of this leaked list we know who had the most suspect blood values at the start of the 2010 Tour.

they(UCI) dont want to catch anyone. the blood passport was a way to let teams/riders dope to a level. they were told if you go way over the level we will ban the rider. it is also a good tool to threaten. that there is no positive means that riders can be pulled up on it for varying levels.
