every tour is different dumbass!!!

Sure they made all of Lance's Tours harder and all of the Tours Contador competed in easier, that's why there is no difference in their average speeds. I'll leave you to continue to troll with idiotic statements, ignorant fantasies and rude remarks.

are you implying that average speed of a tour shows which cyclist is better?

You can't compare one Tour to one other Tour as the course changes but you can compare an average of one decade's worth of Tours to another. Performance has been steadily increasing. That goes for races where the course has not changed in decades as well.

The "bums" of today are outperforming the top pros of yesteryear.

so you're saying a Wiggins, a Frank, a Samuel Sánchez, would beat the likes of Indurain, Lance, Hinault??

That to me looks like the face of someone who has won five GT's.

A feat that only 9 other riders have done.

A feat that only one other has done at the age of 27.

It's the face of someone that has won all three GT's, only 4 others have done that.

At 27.

Ya, what this guy said. 'Nuff said.

I think contador has what it takes to win the tour quite a few more times but that is all... I don't see him winning many other races except paris nice.... I don't think he is tough enough to go for 2 tours in a year anytime soon and I would be amazed if he will start the giro next year... bit disapointed with contador I think he is going to turn into another armstrong instead of someone like merckx... well obviously not merckx... i mean some guy who goes for all sorts of races all year.. I think contador will finish his season in july for the forseeable future..

although i haven't given him much of a chance really :S

those years are gone forever,in todays peloton its impossible to do giro/TdF or Tdf/vuelta and do it on podium...too many riders are specializing on number of races while in merckxs years they were riding pretty much whole year...i think the last rider to do two grand tours back to back clean (?) was indurain

i d say giro/vuelta is possible though

yes I think you are right about that to be fair to him.... but it would be nice if he would try 2 maybe no to win the 2nd choice one but to perform and take a stage... also he could try to do more of the classics... and make a real attempt to win them...

He was third in La Flèche Wallonne... First time he ever entered that race and still managed to get on the podium... He was making a real attempt to win, Cuddles was just better.

Contador participated in a lot of stage races/one day races this season. The Dauphine(2nd+ points classification and 2 stage wins), Paris-Nice(1st), Volta ao Algarve(1st), Vuelta a Castilla y Leon(1st) and the Criterium international(lost bc of an allergy attack during the race).

And he also participated in Luik-Bastenaken-Luik(9th or 10th if I remember correctly).

I think Contador has almost won as many stage races then Eddy Merckx(obviously not including the Grand Tours)

Contador is already one of the best stage racers in the history of cycling.

Do you guys bother to go and read results before you post here? I think it was @Dekker_tifosi in another thread who suggested the same.

If you look at CQRanking from this year Contador has won 10 races already. He is the second (or third) winningest rider of the season (after Greipel, and depending if you want to include Mcann who is a continental team-based rider racing predominantly on the Asia Tour). He has been winning races since his first race of the season. He came 3rd in Felche Wallone and 9th in Liege-Bastogne-Liege -while helping Vino win- in his first year ever racing in the classics.

Contador is a renaissance champion. He's of the old mold, he races with grinta, he wins from the season start to the season's end. Like Merckx did, like Hinault did, like Jalabert did, like Kelly did.

He is f*king fantastic for the sport, and we're lucky to have a new GT champion like him. Sure beats the way Armstrong went about it. And I can't wait to see him battling Schleck for the next few years. And I like Schleck too, you can like them both you know.

well hes got 44 racing days so far this season and i dont think he ll have more than 50 by the end...hes winning a lot but 50 racing days a year is a joke...especially if you compare him to the riders of 70s,80s,90s

ofc you cant blame him,its just the way cycling is now

Yes I know he has won races this year and came 3rd in fleche.... but i think most of wins arent so impressive... winning the prologue of the dauphine and some other small stage races I dont think is that great..... of course the big thing is the tdf and winning this makes contador is a great rider but so far he is far behind the real legends and I dont think he will ever get there... and i dont think he will make a big effort to win the spring classics...I think he is just going to carry on going for the win in paris nice and the tdf and win a few smaller races in preperation each season..... I think he's going to end up with a worse record than armstrong... which is hardly an insult...would be nice if he does go on and win a load of races though.

I don't think the Italian riders concentrated on Le Tour in 2008. But the point made was "he isn't tough enough to win 2 GT's in a year" when infact he has already done it, something Armstrong couldn't do maybe cos Armstrong wasn't tough enough :D

I know contador won 2 gts in 2008... I had great hopes for him after that but now it looks to me he is just going to go for the tour every year and practically finish his season after it...

I dont think we will see contador go for 2 tours even to win one and win stages in another for quite a long time.

Lance didn't win the Giro,Vuelta, because he concentrated on the Tour... Conti would have done the same in 2008 if not for the ban...

This year Conti proved that he isnt tough enough to win another GT in the same year as a Tour...

He's gona pull a Lance in the next few years, though will never be as good as the original...

Well yippie for Lance for boring the world to death. I know maybe all races won before 1999 shouldn't be counted and all races won after 2005 also shouldn't(if I recall correctly Armstrong didn't win any races in his comeback), that way Lance will be the champion of all time. I don't know if Contador will win more than 7 TdF's but I'm guessing his final GT haul will be more than 7 and as for Lance and his 7, records are there to be broken and I'm sure someone else will come along focus only on the Tour and win 8.
