That’s two young MLB players suspended this spring. Marte joins several horses (okay, actually trainers) who were caught using that particular steroid.

Yeah, I found that interesting. Wonder if some dopers are just naive about what they’re actually taking and just go by whatever a trainer or teammate told them. They certainly seem much less aware of PED details than the denizens of this forum

Banned Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva was given 56 medications, nutritional and dietary supplements, the Court of Arbitration for Sport has revealed.

They were given to Valieva over a two-year period from January 2020 to December 2021, when she was aged 13-15.

None of the substances are on the World Anti-Doping Agency's (Wada) banned list.

Valieva, 17, was given a four-year ban for doping by Cas in January.

She tested positive for banned heart medication trimetazidine in December 2021, shortly before competing in the 2022 Winter Olympics.

A couple banned substances would likely be safer/healthier than what she’s being put through. Maybe not explicitly against the rules but ironic considering it’s what the rules are trying to prevent.

Why not? Maybe some of them are dodgy or somewhat unhealthy, but I wouldn't assume so.

Probably not as purely a child welfare safety issue, it's the kind of abuse of trust from coaches we often see in gymnastics too

but I dread to think if they surveyed the adults in some professional sports just how many medications & supplements they'd tally up, as its probably more than 56 if you break it down completely.

All perfectly legal of course but they're not existing on just bread & water.

I also would presume that some of these were used intermittently or sporadically as needed. It's always a bit shocking to look at everything an athlete might take over years ... she certainly has used a lot of different supplements (a few that I don't recognize and did not check)

This said, she doped too!

It's the same as the poor French guy accused of taking EPO. The only answer is to sue for loss of income, damages etc etc so that sports bodies are 100% certain of doping before banning people. Giving the old "following WADA guidelines" excuse does not exonerate national sports federations.

These two examples seem different than the faulty EPO test. They haven’t proved that they weren’t doping. They had their excuses about contamination deemed viable. That’s the area where a clearer standard is needed—making a decision on the “balance of probabilities” in which the probability threshold isn’t determined in advance leads to chaos.

There does seem to be a contradiction in the article - "We follow the evidence ..."

Moore, 31, was banned in May 2022 after boldenone and nandrolone - anabolic steroids on Wada's banned list - were found in her system.

In December 2023, an independent panel ruled meat eaten while she was playing in Colombia was the source of both substances.

However, the case is not yet over. The ITIA is appealing against the ruling that both of the substances in her system were a result of contaminated meat.

The heavy handed way they've handled these cases - claiming guilt, without investigation - is the big problem, as athletes can n't get back lost time.
