Go away you pesky little troll!:p

Why don't you make a thread for Tour de San Luis?

Because there's no need for threads for low-importance warmup races until they're actually about to happen.

This is a thread about a low-importance warmup race for a low-importance warmup race ;)

Never question the prestige, importance and relevance of the Australian cycling season.

It's much easier to watch the first day for novelty value, remember it's crap and then let the local upside downers work themselves in to a lather over it.

it is a lot less about 'upside downers' getting worked up and more about the fact that it is generally the first race of the year with all the new teams. First chance to see teams, kits, bikes altogether. This was sky's first race when they appeared and from comments i have seen it really mattered to them that they won and it mattered to HTC as well.

Much as everyone loves to slag off TDU and the Crit it is this fact alone that makes it interesting for some of us. I would be equally excited if it was some crap French race (well apart from the time difference) but it isn't.

but then again i think most of the comments about the race are more about winding Australians (or a certain Australian) up than actually really caring. I mean if you were really fussed you could always not watch the race and not read the thread.

Your post would have more weight if your location didn't clearly indicate you're standing on your head as we speak.

oh ok, because one's location clearly indicates the intent of thier opinion.
no doubt a solid argument.

Anyway TDU, and especially crits hardly deserve single threads. But whatever.

Hello Brick Wall. Dave's post proves that it is irrelevant where people come from that they are excited for this event because after a long hiatus of cycling we now have racing with riders competing with their new teams for the first time in their new jerseys. As a fan of the sport I am excited because there is cycling to watch but also the largest Australian race is on. Take your baseless negativity somewhere else please.

When I'm taking the **** out of a race, saying only Australians give a ****, then yes, the fact that someone is Australian is very much a weakness for them in making a counter-argument.

When another Aussie comes in to get their back, the error is compounded.

So you need to make juvenile attacks towards someone to prove a point instead of actually rebutting mine and other arguments? That's quite pathetic and you need to grow up.

I'm just staggered that after this race has been going so long, Australians are still so protective of it they're blinded to the reality that being Australian is a legitimate handicap when you are trying to argue that people other than Australians care.

Of course people will watch because it's the first race back. But it's still amusing to see the national balance in this thread making perfectly clear that isn't the only factor at play.

well I'm sure most of the users can back me up when I say I have often been one of the most anti-tdu and anti-cuddles posters on the forum, in fact I'm ussually in your position. But I don't make my argument based on a "location" on the top right corner. Your comments are a joke.

TDU is a crap race, agree it doesn't deserve 100 threads (but really what does it matter? if they want a thread why should I care? I'm not that bored or petty). But I'm not the idiot who is making an argument based around non relevant points, maybe next time actually reply to daveinzambia point rather then his location you ignorant chump.

Why. because if i lived in UK then it would not longer be the first race of the season with all the world tour teams in it. Yep that logic works.

I live in Sydney but am not Australian and in fact something being nationalistically Australian is more likely to put me off than be considered a plus.

I love cycling, i love watching races, i spend very off season dying for the season to restart and to see some races, any races. I have tried getting into cyclocross but something about it does not appeal. So will always get excited by the first race of the season no matter what or where.

but obviously you are so fixed on peoples locations you cannot understand that.

If you're unsatisfied with this thread please stay away, and refrain from making off-topic remarks.

The way a race is covered on the forum is not a moderation decision, it is up to the community, if someone thinks a race is worthy of individual stage threads then they are welcome to make those threads. Moderators would intervene only if it was counterproductive to the forum (i.e. if this race was in May or July, it would be relegated to the "Lesser Known Races" thread).

Comments from this point on shall be related to the events on Sunday.

Caleb Ewan. :p

Nahh i suppose its either Sutton, Hendo, Renshaw, Matthews or maybe the other youngster Von Hoff with a chance of the win.

Dunno about Lotto and whether Greipel will want to contest the sprint - who knows.

In my view Greipel cannot position. Therefore i rule him out for the Crit.

Lotto brings one of the strongest teams and Henderson, Hansen, Reynes and Sieberg know each other from High Road days and have won many races as support of Greipel. Together with Roelandts that offers a very strong package.

Greipel still sucks at holding a wheel regardless of how many guys he has around him.

I doubt that's true, and even if so: from a pure quality related point of view, he is the best sprinter in this race anyway
