Demare is one of the fastest men in the peloton and should beat Sagan anytime in a flat sprint. Today doesn't give any indication that Sagan's sprinting abilities have diminished. In fact I'm surprised Sagan manged to pull it off even with the controversy.

He is much faster now than this time last year.

After classics he focus on sprinting. He's also much stronger.

Not sure I buy that. His ToC form last year would not have been so easily overhauled by Demare, even on a parcours that suits him and with Demare stopping and starting again from behind with 75m to go.

Today suggests MSR was no fluke and Sagan's sprint is not what it was in last year's tour.

That´s what stars worrying me a little as well. But beeing the one of the best "classiker" probably can beat beeing one of the best "sprinter".

Don't forget how much work he did during MSR and today, of course his sprint is not going to be like it would be when sitting in the Peloton all day.

Just watched the race. Bit of a disappointing stage. Luckily Sagan was participating.

Great to see some young guns like Le Bon deliver. And of course also a special mention for Gaudin, what an absolute monster performance that was.

I can't believe that people are questioning Sagan's sprint when he beat both Cavendish and Greipel in a mass sprint just weeks ago.

That's called short-term memory loss.

Sagan repeatedly achieved finishes that Demare has not been able to manage in the Tour last year.

Today Demare was 2 or 3 levels better than Sagan.

I am afraid, in my case it is luck of cycling knowledge. :( I did not realize the difference between sprinting from the bunch riding in Peloton all the time and sprinting from the leading group controlling 100% of the race. I just saw Peter being a little bit slower that he used to be. :)

What? Sagan already once beat Cavandish!?!

I don't see that anything has diminished in Sagan's sprint. In MSR he did a lot of work in the final and Ciolek came off his wheel to beat him (Ciolek also didn't do any work in the final). And today Sagan again did a fair amount of work plus attacked a few times, and Demare also came off Sagan's wheel in the final (yet Sagan still pulled it off).

When he starts getting beat by some really sub-par sprinters then we can start to wonder if his sprint is diminishing. But that's not happening yet.

Easy Frank easy. I hope "one of the best" can be used regarding Sagan. Mr. supertrainsprinter Cav is untouchable for me. At least few months more. :D

Sagan did like 3-4 attacks during the race, split up everything, did most of the work in the break, and still won the sprint. Yet Demare, who only wheelsucked all day, was 2 or 3 levels better...

Sure.

Poor Sagan, barely able to sprint.

Demare to get revenge today? Possibly, but against Greipel and Cav, on a flatter stage, may find it harder.

Here's hoping he gets his win though.

Nice summation. Demare is a good sprinter but Sagan worked hard. Sometimes Sagan also only does enough to win. This time it was too close but he should stop easing up before the line. Demare was unlucky but still a fully deserved win by Sagan.

I will say Cav to win.

Why did Haller go in the break- he is a good sprinter and it is not helping me CQ wise.

hard to see past cavendish will likely lack of chances for him over next few weeks he will be keen to get involved here.
