Esher and Henley are pretty big clubs for what it's worth. Obviously still small but maybe it'll get noticed.

The catches are getting bigger and bigger, that's for sure.

The decision of the panel in the Quarry makes for interesting reading, about some of the issues of collaboration between anti-doping and the legal authorities. Its certainly not as seamless as it should be. They also considered a life ban, but kept it down to "just" 12 years.

Sam Broster (Macclesfield RFC - National League 2/Tier 4, but were National League 1 at the time of the positive) banned for 2 years for a clenbutarol positive. His argument was that it was meat contamination, specifically Biltong a type of South African Jerky. The positive was in July 2014 so 2 years is the standard sanction due to the rules in force at that time).

Interestingly, it has been almost a year since the panel sat and agreed the judgement.
Once assumes there was some sort of appeal over the jurisdictional matter discussed in the full decision.

The guy at least admitted promptly. Saving the time effort and expense of hearings which would not have affected the outcome.

UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) today confirmed that a 21 year-old English rugby league player, Nathan Darby, of Hunslett Hawks (League 1, so tier 3) has been banned from all sport for four years following an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV).
Three different anabolic steroids.

He admitted the charge, but was given no reduction, due to the presence of multiple violations.

He was still serving his first (2 year) ban when he tested positive for steroids a second time. 8 years is undoubtedly the correct length of time.
I would think that his ban shouldn't have been from March 3rd (the provisional suspension date), but rather tacked onto the end of his current ban (May 14th), but that is a minor matter. After being out of the game for ~10 years the difference is strictly academic, as to his chances of playing organized rugby ever again.

Finally UKAD gets a ban for Sam Barlow, due process can go quite slowly at times.

Convicted of assault against a DCO, he is suspended for 4 years for an ADRV pursuant to Article 2.5 of the World Anti-Doping Code – “Tampering or Attempted Tampering with any part of Doping Control”.

Rugby League:

Lee Mapals of Hunslett Hawks, league 1, tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone and metabolites of the steroid oxymetholone following an out-of-competition test on 16 June 2016. When faced with the latter of charge he made a prompt admission. Due to the serious nature of the violation, no reduction in the ban was gieven.

4 Years.

That's potentially the big "oh ****" moment for rugby union.

Doubt it. Responses are already along the lines of tennis / soccer "outraged at accusation", "fully expect to be exonerated" etc etc.

Oh Sure traces of Cortico steroids is the nail in the coffin/ oh %*$# moment

If the silly number of Anabolic (and smattering of HGH) positives isn't enough to trigger an %*$# moment, then this is the literal small story.

It''s not the substance, it's the players that make this story different. Rugby is somewhat odd in that it combines huge numbers of positives with catching very few at the top of the game. This is the pinnacle of the game, it's biggest star among those caught in a mass bust at the final of the biggest money club competition.
