Lol, Rygby is a modern freak show.
I can't see anyone ever calling him out either, because he's about as clean cut and upstanding as you can get. A genuine role model.

No off field behaviour scandals from that lad.

Yes, he's definitely one of the good guys....not your stereotypical Footy-Head by a long ways!

Would be the perfect guise though right - :D

Now back to real PEDS in rugby (sort of)

http://www.ukad.org.uk/news/article/luke-willmott-banned-for-two-years-for-attempted-trafficking-of-human-growt

Luke Wilmott the Captain of Derby RFC is banned for attempted trafficking of HGH in a case dating back to June 2013, but the trafficking charge was added in January 2015.

Ban was originally 5 years, but reduced to two on appeal, The adding of the trafficking charge and then the appeal is why this process has been so drawn out.

www.ukad.org.uk/anti-doping-rule-violations/download-decision/a/6980
Full decision is some 42 pages long covers original case and appeal.

Of course the kicker is that the vials didn't even contain HGH, being bought in from a dodgy source.

Mr Willmott currently runs a gym and a supplement store.

I googled Derby RFC to find out what division they play in, but the lead story was of a player collapsing and dying on the field, in 2012, age 31. Poor guy.

BTW they are in Midlands 1 East which I would have thought isn't even semi pro, maybe level 6 or 7 in the national structure? Crazy that amateur players are blowing their hard earned on this stuff.

Can't tell if this is sarcastic or not as I know nothing about him... Off to Google...

Ok, on reading Wikipedia, it seems like the guy is extremely nice (non-sarcastic).

UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) today confirmed that a rugby union player from Lincolnshire, Dan Lancaster, has been suspended from all sport for four years following an Anti-Doping Rule Violation for attempted use of anabolic steroids.

The case dates back to April 2015, when 300 ampoules of “Testapron Testosterone Propionate”, which is a commercial name for anabolic steroids, were seized at the UK border. The package was addressed to Dan Lancaster, who at the time was registered at Cleethorpes RFC.

Press Release:
http://www.ukad.org.uk/news/article/rugby-union-player-dan-lancaster-banned-for-four-years/

Full Decision and appeal:

Cleethorpes RUFC is in Midlands 4 East (North) well down the totem pole.

Original panel gave 3 years 6 months, due to prompt admission and openness during the process, UKAD appealed (basically as WADA had not agrred to the reduction) and had the full 4 years applied.

guys who play rugby should be suspended if they are not on steroids or their equivalent

this is Sébastien Chabal's turf and he will grow a beard if he wishes too and you can go groom your bum fluff.

I just started following rugby last year. In fact, I can't even say I'm following yet. I just noticed it last year, and really enjoy watching it if I'm around when it happens to be on. I am totally ignorant, and have no clue that it hasn't always been this way. Kind of like a new cycling fan.

Ex-All Black Joeli Vidiri claims supplement creatine may have contributed to Jonah Lomu's death

I don't doubt his story. Most athletes in the 90's were getting creatine almost forced onto them. I guess I can count myself lucky of my borderline OCD that I actually measured my dosages in grams rather than heaped teaspoons everyone else used to do.

Creatine was also cited in a number of deaths of cellege wrestlers int eh USA many years ago when it first came to prominence and is still an issue in high school american football

After the CTE findngs by a Nigerian Doctor why anyone would want to play a sport that destroys the brain is beyond me, but maybe it is a prime example of Darwinism.

Rugby, NFL, boxing, MMA, kickboxing: all sports that destroy the brain.

TV, smartphones, Internet: also arguably destroy the brain (or at least deform it), along with privacy, as well as, ultimately, liberty. And yet we embrace it. More Darwinism?

This is the rugby thread, thought i would keep it on topic :D

Agree with rest. Destruction of freedom and privacy are not Darwinism per se, but definitely related.

Rugby is the downhill mountain biking of field sports. People play it because they like adrenalin and a feeling of being alive.
