Okay, crazy thought experience.
If Degenkolb was to win tomorrow, and Kittel becomes fourth, who'd win the GC? Degenkolb would get 10 bonus seconds, tying him with Kittel, and they'd both have fourth place as their (second) best placing, after two wins each.

I know, this is probably not gonna happen, but in theory.

Degenkolb because when he won Kittel was further back. That's just a guess....not sure how it really works.

Yes, that's true. The sum of all placings is a primary tie-breaker in the event of equality in time. If that's still not able to tie-break it becomes number of stage wins, then number of second placings and so on.

Cav faking another mechanical when he realised he couldn't beat Kittel?
Look at the cadence, it looks like he slipped down a gear when he tried coming around. That being said, I don't think there was enough road left to come past.

Good to see Tom Stewart already making the most of his opportunities this year. It's a shame he isn't racing at a higher level.

Viviani's going to start seeing that blue jersey in his nightmares

4 Quickstep riders managed to beat him in 2 races so far. That is an incredible feat for sure. :D

That's 3! (Gaviria, Boonen, Kittel)

He withdrew from San Juan during the mountain stage.

Yes, missing out on Pro Conti was a tough call. He deserved better. Hopefully this result may help them get some decent races as a Conti team, even if the bonus seconds for the breaks and cancellation of the 4th stage inflated his result somewhat.
