EF is having a better season than I thought, as measured by number of wins.

They picked two wins this week in the Tour de l'Ain

Compared to recent years they are doing well, and it is only the middle of July.

It can be hard to define success. Think EF has performed well, although their tactics have been dubious at times. And a stage win does not mean you have ridden well. For example, even if Jayco get a second stage win they have nor performed as well as the 2023 edition where they got no stage wins, 18 top 10's, 4th on GC and over 2000 UCI points. For me the most disappointing team so far is AG2R who have not performed at near their level in 2024.

Carapaz hard carrying the team at the Tour. First by wearing the yellow jersey for one day, then by winning a stage.
Still, he's a shadow of his former self since leaving Ineos.
He is actually being paid for that. He is doing Ok if you ask me. He might get another stage and some people might say that it is better than being 4th or 5th.

Healy needs to learn to finesse into the breakaway and then use your power in the breakaway. Today EF wasted Carapaz in the breakaway who should have been in the pleton. Carapaz will need super legs to get into a break for the third consecutive day and then win the stage.

Maybe the Vuelta has more stages that would fit Healy?
Can he have anything left in the tank at this point?
Is he doing the Olympics? I did a quick check to see who is riding for Ireland but didn't see anyone.
Healy’s been named to Ireland’s 3-person Olympics road cycling team, with Ryan Mullen doing RR + TT, and Megan Armitage riding the women’s RR.

Solid ride by Carapaz considering the effort yesterday. Hopefully we will see more break action from him on stage 20. Add some more points to the jersey.
Tomorrow has a cat2 and 3 cat1s, so 35 points max, and Sunday has an Cat2 that you can probably assume the MJ will take, and he has a 14 point lead over Pogi. I’d say he has to get in the break and pick up points over the first 2 to get some cushion.

Maybe also try and get Healy/Quinn/Powless into the break to help for the climbs, but also a possible stage win and stop Pogacar getting full points on Couillole.
