This is a much more exciting race than we usually get here. If G1 stays away, who does Matthews lose to?

Libertine can probably comment better on this, but it is what it is with the geography of the area, the need to finish in the center and having the finishing circuits. It doesn't matter much what route will be taken since it will always be something like 40km from the last difficulty unless the finish is moved or the number of circuits is reduced.

But why is there an absolute need for finishing circuits? All other races live without them.

Aside from Groenewegen, which other pure sprinters have been dropped? Or is everyone else still there?

Kristoff got boxed in until it was too late, goes to show that experience with a finish doesn't count for everything. Krieger and Philipsen got it exactly right there, Alpecin have become such an elite team.
