Libertine can probably comment better on this, but it is what it is with the geography of the area, the need to finish in the center and having the finishing circuits. It doesn't matter much what route will be taken since it will always be something like 40km from the last difficulty unless the finish is moved or the number of circuits is reduced.

I don't know why there are circuits. When the last effort was made to make the route harder 2 or 3 years ago the circuits were kept.

Because it's great for the spectators, just look at how many of them there aren't on the circuit!

I think the route is heavily influenced by security questions and the possibility to get the road closed/ the necessary permissions.

Great work by that last leadout man of Philipsen in the last couple of kilometers. Philipsen took it pretty easy, really stepped up this year, it seems.

Kristoff got boxed in until it was too late, goes to show that experience with a finish doesn't count for everything. Krieger and Philipsen got it exactly right there, Alpecin have become such an elite team.
