LOL, I was just about to write that Kerzhakov needs to start thinking before he does something... And on this play it looked like he had time to think which only made it worse

Kerzhakov really can't score can he?

Yep. Problem is Pavluchenko and Pogrebnyak are too slow, at least for the type of game they're playing today

Is Czech so weak or Russia so strong?

I'm inclined to think the last... damn!

Probably a bit of both. Actually typical Russian play 15 minutes of brilliance per half, with 30 minutes of mediocrity. Czech defense just happened to be weak enough for Russia to score 4 goals during their "brilliance" flashes

Russia's football is very pleasing on the eye and each player has a good understanding of each other's game. Just look at how many Zenit players are on the team. Plus this team is very settled with pretty much the same players over a number of years. Arshavin was excellent tonight and it is mystery why he never did this for Arsenal on a consistent basis. I have a feeling he is more indulged with the Russian team as he is very much the main man where at Arsenal he had Fabregas, RVP and Nasri in the past. I also think Denisov is an excellent player and I am amazed a top club in the major leagues have never come in for him. He first caught my eye in the UEFA Cup final that Zenit won against Rangers in 2008 and he can do a bit of everthing in midfield. Very important player for Russia who overs a good balance to the team. Czechs were poor and Rosicky never got a foothold of the game. Jiracek looked decent in midfield though but they really don't have the quality that they once had in previous tournaments.

Of the starters 7 were from Zenit, 3 were from CSKA, and Zhirkov played for CSKA(still with Berezutski and Ignash) before moving on to Chelsea, so yeah all these guys are extremely familiar with each other

Yeah Russia played really well today. They will probably win this group. I also think Greece will go through.

Thing is, doesn't even matter so much whether you win this group or take second. Either way, in the quaters you're playing one of the Germany/Holland/Portugal, unless Denmark pulls another miracle

I know greece wasn't at their finest today..but just pointing something out. Greece beat portugal twice in euro 2004. And russia beat holland in euro 2008. Anything is possible. While this happened in the past, anything can still happen.

Poland vs Greece was exciting. The match had everything. Goals, Red Cards, Goals disallowed for off side, penalty claim turned down. Penalty missed. In the end I thought Poland were lucky to come away with a draw.
Pleased with the Russian performance!

Huge Premier league goalkeepers are looking really crap today.

Szczesny was terrible. Anyway what happened to Boruc. He's not even in the polish squad.

Cech is probably the most overrated goalkeeper in the world.

He was very good in the Champions league Final. He does come out for the ball sometimes, in order to cut out the angles, and when he concedes does look silly sometimes. Except for 2nd goal, can't blame him for the others. Their defence was poor.

i must be honest, i can't see past a defeat for portugal today the way we have been playing :(

only hope is that they win by a miracle and get a gigantic moral boost and start playing proper football for the rest of the tournament, otherwise we won't go far.

This could be a high scoring game today.
Germany has a great offense, but our defense is a horror show lately.

It wil be hard for Portugal to get a decent result this Euro. My main problems with the squad:

None of the midfielders has the ability to "lead" the game. Moutinho is our best shot for that job and despite glances of brigthness, he falls short. I'm very surprised Bento didn't properly test Viana on the friendly games. Maybe he's not in the best of physical conditions.

We do have great options on the side line. Coentrão/ Ronaldo. João Pereira/Nani (although I think coach will give right defender to Miguel Lopes this game at least) But then when it comes for the striker to score ...don't even get me started.

So basically, and even though they screw up big time last game, the defense is what I trust the most. And what I believe will save our face in the end.

Confident for the match v Denmark, think 2-0 for us. Germany-Portugal is very interesting, Germany is the better side but somehow I expect a draw.
