Russia were bit poor considering supposed to be far superior , great match though and goal of the tournament so far :)

The thing is - they're not superior. You can look at FIFA ranking all you want, it doesn't matter. And for someone who doesn't follow the team - you might remember impressive wins against Sweden and Holland four years ago or the Czechs 4 days ago.
But for someone who is a fan - this is essentially the same team that barely made it into Euros 4 years ago by squeaking past mighty Andorra 1-0 after Croatia gave them present of a lifetime, beating England in the meaningless (for Croatia) game.
Same team that got knocked out in the qualifiers for South Africa 2 years ago by mighty Slovenia.
Bottom line is - this team never had any consistency, Arshavin is the prime example of that, sample of the team so to day. When they're on - THEY'RE ON, when the can't figure a defense out they just shut down, I don't know if it's lack of skill, or imagination or what. Moreover the defense is old and not the greatest.
Not only a problem for the senior team, our U-21 team played 0-0 with Albania today.
Good news is - the one team we've been consistently solid against is Greece

poland imo looked better, quicker and more scoring today...they should have won.

that said, the impression i got was that the russians were classier as a team - more options both in the attacking and/or a defensive game...their forwards looked sharper when given the opportunity and the defensemen were cooler and more confident in their game...

today, unlike with the czechs, the russians demonstrated slow, ball-holding/short passing game. it seemed deliberate - to quench the pole's drive for a quick counterattack. imo, the russians should be happy with the outcome given the mad support of the local polish fans for their team, though, i saw at least one (if not two) occasions where the 11-metre penalty should have been given against the polish defense.

overall, a great game.

I actually thought the refereeing in this game was rather decent, the only real bad call was a no-call on Poland for a foul on Dzaga, after which he got the yellow (and rightfully so - the yellow, but he's only 21, would be a shame if he gets another though). Didn't see the penalty incidents you're referring to, but I missed 10-15 minutes in each half, so maybe I missed it.

And once we're on the topic of refereeing - my God, Greece just can't get a break, another pathetically refereed game against them. I just hope the refs don't decide all of the sudden "hey we've screwed Greece twice, let's screw their opponent now" the next game they play

So you have no idea?:D

I do have one. ;)
Simplest idea to have is that opponents play differently and thus might fit you better or worse. The Czechs didn't really do anything against the Russians in central midfield, which suited them a lot. They also didn't press a bit, the few times they actually did the Russians didn't look that great anymore and the Czech looked better. Poland though fielded 3 holding midfielders, and no bad ones either, including one with the sole purpose of keeping runs of the other two DMs safe. You can't just pass though that as you like with the midfield triangle (Shirokov,Denisov Zyrianov) when they crowd the place like this basically.

Denmark Vs Portugal should be interesting .Both teams were in the same group in qualifying and should know each other well. I wouldn't be surprised if Denmark win today's game.

LOL, Russia gets conditional 6 points taken away from the next round of Euro qualifying (i.e. if there's another "incident", the points will be taken away). This, for some retards throwing some firecrackers on the field, and "indecent banner".

I guess not being able to protect fans from getting attacked in bars by hooligans is no worse than "indecent banners", as per UEFA

Having seen the Netherlands - Denmark match, I think Denmark stands zero chance to win from Portugal.

Well, I based my opinion on the Qualifying stage as Denmark bt Portugal then.
But after the first half you seem to be right. They were lucky to score an off side goal.

Beating up stewards after Czech game too ;)

The march added to that imo, it's nice to have marches but going in area were there was shrine to killed Polish president in aircrash to Russia isn't great idea by the 'genius' that organized it.

Meh. March or no march, authorities announced 2 hours before that there was 2000 Polish hooligans on their way to Warsaw to cause trouble, and still could not prevent violence.

Stuff like this

has nothing to do with marches. But has a TON to do with this

Fortunately this is not the Warsaw I've seen

Portugal shows us how to finish of easy chances.

If Van Persie did the same then we would've won 3/4-1. But ok.

Exciting match! Varela the unlikely hero.
Lol at Christiano Ronaldo for failing to finish two clear cut one on ones with the keeper. He should take a cue from the world's best striker:D who scored two goals tonight.

Lol people saying ( not here, just overall ) that Ronaldo is better at International level than Messi and that's why he's better player overall than Messi... lol

I don't like Portugal diving but it was great match.

We have no chance whatsoever at beating Germany. Maybe we'll fluke a draw

Germany's not invincible. And you guys have Snejder. Anything's possible. I say 2-1 Holland.
