And on to the penalties we go.

Who ever wins this, I cannot see them go to the final unless the DFB-Elf has a pretty bad day. Especially I cannot see England not loose such a fixture.

Italy not playing like Italy at all.

Good to see.
Italy have been playing un-Italian-like for a couple of years now. It's certainly good news for football.

England's skill is such that their price on betfair has actually length'd since the final whistle.

Can imagine it being 3-0 to italy on penalties

So Italy wins it. Very deserved.
Even though it's not nice to see Italy in the semis either.

Oh and it's just nice to see Cole to fail like that.

That was the icing on the cake of Pirlo's panenka! Thank God that justice was done to this game. England, the Chelsea of Europe.:D

I also hugely enjoyed a West Ham reject scoring the winner.:p

Glad England is out.

Don't need another Chelsea

It would be great if the one time England won a penalty shootout they ended up having to play Germany in the semi with 3 days rest to germanies 5 having just gone 120 minutes and having worse players on every part of the pitch.

The right result.

I feel like England weren't so much negative as lacking in the invention later on. They created some decent chances in the early running, and it looked like it would be a much more even match than it turned out to be. But frankly, there is a gulf in class between the two teams and it was shown up tonight; Italy still have far to go; their lack of finishing must be a worry as they can't guarantee creating the same number of chances as, say, Spain or Germany, and Pirlo is the one cog everything works around. However, they were definitely the better team tonight and deserve to go through.

So far it feels like every quarter final has gone the right way. If things go the right way we're likely to have the Spain-Germany final everybody expected at the start. That should be good, though, given that Germany have the attacking strength to ask questions of Spain, yet have seemed occasionally fragile at the back themselves.
