Bad match, and bad referee.
He let several nasty fouls go unpunished, which only stimulated more anti-football.

Guy was an idiot. He was stopped the game for every dude falling over, and then when hard fouls were being committed he stood there and did nothing.

O'Neill goes with the same team.

I was hoping O'Shea and Hoolahan would come in. Although Duffy did well against Italy. Need that extra man in midfield against their quality. This is totally a different prospect to the second string Italian side we faced. We could get overrun in that area.

What gives hope, is Albania and Romania competed and we have better players. Still think we will lose by a couple of goals.

At least try and make it a competitive game.

I'm just thrilled to bits to see two Hammers on the pitch at this level, so I'm happy with either result. I totally get how the Irish feel about this game today!

Both teams deserved to go home. I've never seen Portugal play this uninspiringly.

Again, Quaresma and Renato Sanches enter to give the team new vigor and galvanize, where possible, our attack. I'm usually not the one to have a go at coaches, but I simply cannot understand why Fernando Santos insists in fielding André Gomes. He's been Portugal's worst player since the competition started. At least Moutinho never looked like entering.

Meanwhile Sanches was considered MOTM.
He made some questionable tackles at times, and how he avoided a yellow card is beyond me. I think Pepe was Portugal's best player - good runs forward, solid tackles and good in the air.

Played extremely well first half but were hugely second best in the second half and something that I expected. I couldn't see France being as bad as in the first half.

I have to go back to O'Neill's decision to not play O'Shea. You have to play him in this type of game with his experience. That second goal in particular, they were all over the place, O'Shea would at least be talking and trying to organise things. We still would have lost, they were far better 2nd half but letting a goal in like that is very frustrating. Not sure that would have led to a goal if O'Shea played. It was basis defending.

Last 16 has been a good achievement with this team.

Randolph has played well for us since taking over as No.1

He did well again today.

Yeah I was watching Belgian TV and they were indeed drooling over how good it was. Good enough game, but indeed it needs to be put into perspective. If they win against Wales it's either Poland or Portugal right? At least Belgium has sick luck with their competition on their way to the final. :D

Yeah, and ironically it's a Dutch guy (Jan Mulder) who's exaggerating the most

Poland/Portugal in the semis indeed.

Belgium are gonna win the whole thing as long as the play in their away strip. Other teams are astounded by its beauty so just stop playing.

They can thank cycling then.

Can anyone think of a team ever having a potential route to the final like Spain/Italy have? Whoever wins plays Germany, then probably the hosts in the semi final.
While Belgium (I assume) from the other side of the draw have a nice little stroll through qualifying.

Wales took 4 points from thier 2 games against Belgium in qualifying with Belgium failing to score a goal, it won't be easy for them.

But yes your right, the 2nd half of the draw is much tougher.

Italy especially.

They were not ranked a 1st catergory team so got a harder group than Spain, and then they got this knockout schedule, despite having won their group. Spain can't complain that much finishing 2nd, but for Italy to see the totally undeserving Belgians get to play a Group *** team as a reward for being a inferior team, and then get a joke run to the final.

Well Belgie still has to win the match's. But I agree it does not seem like the set up for the groups and knockout rounds was well planed.

Anyhow it was nice to watch Chile win last night. The match was not good due to fouls and tempers. Chile has a good team for the future - well at least for a few more years.
