Can anyone think of a team ever having a potential route to the final like Spain/Italy have? Whoever wins plays Germany, then probably the hosts in the semi final.
While Belgium (I assume) from the other side of the draw have a nice little stroll through qualifying.
Italy especially.

They were not ranked a 1st catergory team so got a harder group than Spain, and then they got this knockout schedule, despite having won their group. Spain can't complain that much finishing 2nd, but for Italy to see the totally undeserving Belgians get to play a Group **** team as a reward for being a inferior team, and then get a joke run to the final.
Well Belgie still has to win the match's. But I agree it does not seem like the set up for the groups and knockout rounds was well planed.

Anyhow it was nice to watch Chile win last night. The match was not good due to fouls and tempers. Chile has a good team for the future - well at least for a few more years.

I think the combined xi of the 3 teams Belgium has to face to get to the final, is still inferior to all 3 teams Italy has to face to get to the final.

What are you babbling about?
Italy play a number 2 team, Belgium a number 1 team. In a normal world, Italy, France and Germany would have found themselves in the first half, England, Spain, Portugal and Belgium in the second half. That would've been fairly even. It's only the fault of some teams underperforming that they find themselves in the hard part of the draw.

Not a big fan of the Azzurri but i'm happy for them today.Germany should normally crash them but i expect a great game.
Next one i hope England is up to the task, goals galore hopefully.

Just saying... Iceland's first goal came after an excellent throw-in. It goes to show the importance of upper-body training even in sports that are seemingly lower-body sports.

But this is the England team that we all know and have laughed at for decades. Should be no surprise that they fark up at a big tournament.

Wait... Why wasn't the Icelandic keeper sent off?

Because there wasn't a clear goals scoring oportunity for Sterling. It's not the last man, but the opportunity taken away that count's for a red card.
Well, it did seem to me like a clear opportunity, but I guess YMMV.
