It's interesting with all the comments on riders using the wrong tactics against Pogacar - and yet nobody ever seems able to specify what they should have done instead ;)
Attacking on the flat section has been suggested, I don't see that working.

Because all DS's and pundits are former riders who are typically in the job because they had the right friends and they never get selected for being good tacticians.

Pogacar gained over 30 seconds on the climb but can Evenepoel chase him down? The next section (downhill + another uphill) suggests Pogacar will increase the advantage further but then there will be more flat sections. Evenepoel may get angry if they don't cooperate with him.

Pogi could also wait untill the last climb(s) and still win solo. But no team tactics if everyone is dropped earlier, even with 4 working together they won’t come back unless Pogi bonks.
Or not. In the final kilometers, it's easier for someone like Ayuso, who's fast. Or maybe he finds that Seixas or Scaroni are stronger than he thought.

The one who's strong always has to secure victory.

It's easy to formulate what the worst strategy is. Ride hard, control the race, invest energy to make the peloton small before the most selective point of the race, give Pogi an armchair ride. No riders out in front.

Belgium rode to lose.

I think they only made 1 mistake, which was closing the gap towards the front of the race. I expected they wanted Vervaeke to get over the last mountain before they got together again
