I think you eventually saw why he did keep pulling--because the others refused to push hard even when he did briefly drop off the front.

Yup. I was wrong. I thought he had burned himself trying to follow Pog. And when Seixas closed him down, I thought he should recover. But he is head and shoulders above the rest. Kinda crazy that then there is yet another level or two to Pog.

Do we still think Remco is as good as Pogacar albeit just with a little less ”luck”?

Seriously? Who has been saying this here other than Pog fans who keep bringing it up as if it’s a thing?

Who other than the half dozen Pog fans who want to fabricate some slight so they can continue to feel weirdly affronted by the world?

Pog fans are so aggrieved. It’s really, really weird.

Why would you pay specifically to watch this?
Apart from just whatever you're already paying for access to MAX/ES/Whatever?
I have sometimes started a one month subscription to watch only a couple of specific events, but I often end up forgetting to unsubscribe, so I'd rather not do it unless it's must-see and memorable stuff (which is of course hard to know in advance when it's sports). When I decide not to spend the money, I'm sort of hoping that the tournament, race or whatever turns out to be a disappointment. 😆

Main takes:
1. Pogacar vs Remco rivalry strikes again: one time Pogacar wins, the other time Remco gets spanked. This rivalry is like Serena vs Sharapova.

2. This race showed a very dangerous thing. Coordination in group 2 with Remco is not enough to beat Pogacar. Pogacar had a 35" gap after the big climb and didn't lose anything. Those who worked with Remco will probably not work anymore because they are working for nothing. They are working to get a chance but they are cooked by Remco later.

1. Damn, that's a good analogy. I'll take Sharapova.
2. Like in Amstel.

Coordination!?

What race did you watch?

However, since I know Pog fans love to feel aggrieved, even if their rider solos from 70 kms out, had Remco been alone, the result would have been the same. No worries.

Pogacar just far far too good for everyone. Remco still excellent and must be getting frustrated by the haul of distant 2nd places where he was still far and away above everyone else.

Chapeau to Paul Seixas who is exceeding all possible fair expectations for his neo pro year.

Gold medal count; yes.
Other medals; no. Remember who was 3rd in the ITT Wednesday?
Yes, but since this is an RR thread, it was RR I was thinking of. :)

I see a discrepancy between the high level of individual Danish riders and the bad results in the team events. Denmark has had perfect conditions for success (the biggest teams ever), and yet so little has come out of it. There could be many reasons, but I see problems with the national coach (although it's too early to say much about Mørkøv) and with what could be called team spirit (in the broadest sense of the word, meaning willingness to participate and do everything possible to support the team's winning chances).

And yes, I know that certain riders from other nations are hard to beat in the battle for the podium, but that's the whole idea of having a big and strong team - that you can use the numbers to optimize your chances.
