Re: The official Primož Roglič is the new Landa thread

Today stage was a big opportunity and I think he was strong enough to win. In fact it was a shame that Ulssi and Gallopin (both bad clients in the sprint) came back to Rogla and Barguil, in that moment I Knew that Mollema would take the victory.

Hopefully he will try again before the TT that of course is still his best chance.
He was. But so were Gallopin, Ulissi, Barguil and Mollema. There wasn't much between them in terms of strength but Mollema was the only one willing to take risks for the win. That's why I'm disappointed Roglic was never the one attacking first. In both his breakaway occasions (stage 9 and today) he was behind chasing the attackers. Not because lack of strength but because of bad tactical decisions, bad positioning and maybe fear of failing. He needs to be the one who attacks first or at least needs to follow immediately attacks such as the Mollema one today. It's a good thing he quickly realised that. His words after the stage sound promising:

“I am very disappointed. You always want to win and I really tried to win it. In the chase on Mollema, there was not really collaboration. That was frustrating. The next time, I will have to make a plan and try to win solo myself.
“All riders in the bunch want to win, so you are really good when you win a stage in the Tour de France. Only winning counts, but this result is a good step up towards the coming stages. And this is also a good step in my development."

That means he knows he should have done something different today and he will try to be the attacker next time. And that also means that he'll be on the attack again in the following stages.

Well that was quickly remedied haha. What a ride that was today. Chapeau

Roglic can climb and TT, why isn't he a GT contender in the bigger Tours? He's done pretty well in the week long races this year.

Awesome performance by Rogla. I´m totally amazed, I was expecting all the time a good climbing showing from Primoz, but not this

Roglic is an interesting prospect - Doubt he will ever be a series GC contender at a GT - Stages, TT's and one week stage races are his go - Will be interesting to see how he develops in the hilly classics/monuments.

He's a serious threat to any one week race now. I just hope he'll keep attacking and not become a "hang on in the climbs then smash the TT" rider.

Even if he doesn't become a gt contender, being the new Spilak is also pretty awesome.
First stage win on a mountain stage for Rabo since 2007, right?
And once again the winner wrecked Contador.

If he becomes a GT-rider, that will be his winning condition. Nothing wrong with that to me, we need more riders like that.

The plan (his and of his team) is to become a GT GC rider. And with his characteristics I think is the correct thing to do. He can climb, is an excellent TT rider, from what we've seen he has good recuperation (although it's different when you need to do close to 100% for 21 stages, we have yet to see this from him) and for the first time he is showing he can handle multi mountain stages. He has made a massive leap forward from last year Giro where he was good only in the last mountain stage. He's been also involved in a crash less this year, only 4 times in this Tour :p So next year is the year to try and go for GC imo. They should send him to whichever GT has the most TT km between Giro an Tour. I know the Giro is Kruijswijk playground in the last couple of years but maybe Lotto-Jumbo should send both there (if the Tour insists with reducing TT km to dethrone Froome) and have a two pronged attack.

But the season is not finished yet. Imo he has realistic chances to win the ITT. Martin should be favourite no.1, but Rogla is right there behind him with maybe Froome. I wonder if he'll ride Tour de Pologne. There's no TT but with his form he can challenge for the top places. Then there's WC ITT where he'll be also one of the favourites for a medal. Sweet challenges ahead of him.

For now it's mainly his consistency that is worrying for GC's. He can be great one day and crap the next. Once that's a bit more consistent he might be good. If not, then he will still be a real good 1-week stage racer (like Spilak).

It was impressive to see him gaining time on the group even when Sky was riding really hard pace.

Awesome. They need to climb there in the Tour de Slovénie. From the south, which is very inconsistent with two Mende-alikes broken up by false flats and descents. Then a TT in Bled.

What races is he doing before the Worlds?
He said in an interview he's for sure doing a race in France in late August (probably GP Plouay) and Tour of Britain. At the time he said maybe he'll add another race to that.I don't know if he/the team already made a decision.

Very happy for his silver medal today, no one could touch Tom today, but he was the best of the rest. Actually if Rohan Dannis didn't take a tumble they might have been battling it out for silver the both of them.
