Job done so far IMO, i.e. the most important job: survive week one.

I said before the Giro a gap of two minutes behind Remco after Sunday wouldn't be unexpected & I stand by that. I also said Rog is going to win this Giro.

Last year Jai Hindley put 1:30 into Carapaz in only a few km's right at the end of the Giro. Whether it works or not for Rog is almost besides the point because the simple fact is Jumbo said he's aiming to peak in the 3rd week, therefor that's where the heavy attacks will come.

If Evenepoel withstands those attacks then he'll be a worthy winner. But Rog will attack, for sure. We might even see some skirmishes today before the ITT because teammates in particular get two rest days when the time trial is situated the day before a rest day.

This could be the worst 1st half of the Giro for some time but hopefully the best 2nd half.

And we have a race.

Very professional climbing performance (no sudden huge stomp, just a gradual acceleration) & super descent as well. I always considered his descending skills would be an asset in this Giro & today was an example of that.

We'll see more I'm sure in week 3.

Yup, to me it seemed that his main goal was to tire Evenepoel instead of gaining advantage as quickly as possible.

Roglic showed today that he is okay, but I am more worried about the team though. It was obvious they wanted to do something today but just didn't have the fire power to execute it. He even started the last climb in the bottom half of the group (when BORA come to the front). But I guess he only needs standard companion Kuss to be in good enough form to drop everyone in the 3rd week.

And today also showed it's not only Remco to watch but also super strong INEOS and Almeida is also looking good. Next 2 weeks should be fun.

He wore him down.

Remco tried to close the gap when it flattened out a bit, but then cracked when it became steep again and Roglic kept going.

Remco likely takes time tomorrow, maybe over a minute, but the climbing in the high mountains is what will ultimately decide.

Honestly if Roglic keeps his form and doesn't fall. I think he can pull off some legendary moves in the mountains over the next 2 weeks.
Agree. The question is whether he'll have to do it all alone, or whether Ineos, UAE and Bora will pitch in. I think we don't yet know how strong Almeida, TGH/GT, Vlasov, Vine, etc are yet. Those teams, with two options have a huge interest in letting Roglic be the main attacker, even if he's behind some of them after the ITT tomorrow.

14 seconds on Remco after about 1.5km of an attack. he's going to fly in the real mountains. i think he'll be around a minute behind after tomorrow, should be fine.
