Sometimes I wonder what the reactions would be if Roglic was the one affected in these crashes; Hoogerland in 2011, Cav into Gerrans 2014, Contador vs potholes and road furniture, Cav and Sagan into each other 2017, etc.

It’s a damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

You seem to think "fair play" is the issue here, as if the team lapsed into some politically correct sindrome; when it simply has to do with abiding by a just protocal. I bet the team orders were before the start: we wait if either Jonas or Primoz has a problem. It has nothing to do with "fair play," but taking on the responsibility of having two leaders to protect at this stage of the race.

Then again why having two leaders in the first place. Whenever Roglič was sent to a race with a dedicated team support and one leader strategy. He won most of them. His style of racing doesn't prefer aggressive team racing . He is OK by not losing any time and winning by 1s. Now he is already down 30s due to multiple leaders strategy involved. So whenever JV plays this multiple interest game. This usually isn't all that beneficial to Roglič. He maybe worries too much about other team interests. This GT is likely a nice playground to stop doing that. Just race to win, as usual, let the rest worry about other team interests. Racing like that likely will force team to support him. Fully. We'll see.

Stupid to speculate if Jumbo would have waited for Roglic, and even more stupid to suggest that they wouldn't and bring up the cobbled stage from last year. Of course they would have waited for Roglic - Vingegaard said so as well - and you simply cannot compare it to that particular stage.

Im not at all surprised though given it comes from CyclistAbi.

For sure.

Yeah. If you have Contador and Froome racing for the same team on the same GT. You will in the end need to force the team to work for you. Especially after the team gifts you a couple of penalty seconds. I guess no other way around that. I don't buy it anymore. That is both riders are under the same level of protection on this race. Rogla will need to change that and force the team to work for him.

Vamos Primož!

That's a whole different matter, which, as I previously mentioned, can be debated (that is Jumbo's choice to bring two leaders). Not that it changes anything now, however. They decide to go with two leaders and so, until one loses time, they will protect both. I find the choice odd, unless they are shifting more towards Vingo for GTs.

@Extinction

It's part of the same matter as yesterday both lost time because of it. And that was not strictly needed. But OK. Now we know they won't sacrifice Jonas. For Rogla they already did it. So the dynamics are rather clear. For Rogla to win this race he will need to beat his team too. Fingers crossed!

Tiresome conspiracy theory is getting tiresome.

Roglic should just learn to stay away from oil sportswashing riders.

This is at least the 3rd time he's crashed due to one of them.

By his standard it was a light touch of asphalt :grinning: . I don't expect it will have any impact on his performance in coming days.

Just my opinion but the attempts by Jumbo & Evenepoel to slow down the bunch after Rog's crash was because they literally wanted to slow down, not because they wanted DSM to "wait" for Rog.

Eurosport immediately started a narrative there like "how dare they demand the peloton wait for Rog!" & they were wrong to do so IMO. It seemed like an obvious reaction to the sketchy conditions, like when Jumbo slowed down the bunch on stage 1 of the 2020 TdF around Nice (after superman Lopez crashed into a road sign).

This sounds right to me. Also, let's not forget about Geraint, who was also taken down then, and who confirmed (at least) Ineos's agreement with the slowing down.

“Gosh dang “make the whole team wait for him and screw Roglic” Vingegaard and “Flat tire and Covid faker” Evenepoel screwing Roglic again. When is it ever going to stop. Rolgic has to ride against everyone, even his own team.

Roglic conspiracy theory probably

Hopefully he’s not too banged up for tomorrow and he got the crash out of his system.

With the benefit of more time to think about it, it seems obvious (to me) JV should have left DVB and Tratnik to help Vingegaard for the last two thirds of the course. I don't think that trio would have lost much time.

The other 4 should have continued on with Roglic. This still disadvantages Rog as he's left without the biggest engines, but it's better than the time loss he did endure.

JV doesn't always have the greatest tactics. They should have game-planned this in advance. What is the point of having two leaders if you make sure that misfortune to one hurts them both?

typical Eurosport. if it was Geraint Thomas who crashed they would've supported them waiting though.

Anyone knows what kind of damage if any Roglič got? It didn't look very serious but you never know with these things. At least it wasn't his fault since someone else slipped and took Roglič with him. But it's crazy really how unlucky can he be.

It looked like a soft landing.

Tomorrow we'll learn more.
