Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

Just my opinion but the attempts by Jumbo & Evenepoel to slow down the bunch after Rog's crash was because they literally wanted to slow down, not because they wanted DSM to "wait" for Rog.

Eurosport immediately started a narrative there like "how dare they demand the peloton wait for Rog!" & they were wrong to do so IMO. It seemed like an obvious reaction to the sketchy conditions, like when Jumbo slowed down the bunch on stage 1 of the 2020 TdF around Nice (after superman Lopez crashed into a road sign).
As a 3 time winner the bunch should have waited for him, especially given the weather and the fact that the stage was meaningless for GC after Montjuic was neutralized.

He is so unlucky but yet maybe it's not just luck, G and Roglic both on the ground is such a predictable outcome :(
It's tempting to say it's all about positioning. Ok yes, he could be taking a safer lines through the corners, given how many times he's been taken out like that. However just looking at his positioning in both Giro and Vuelta crashes, which were similar in nature, there was nothing out of ordinary in his positioning prior to the crash:

Pause this video at 2m 53s. Nothing he did that wasn't done by literally dozens of other riders in that very same corner yet he's the one who gets hit by another rider. Again. I'm all for maximising your chances of staying on your bike but it really does look like just a lot of bad luck to me.

Same thing goes for G. Nothing wrong in his positioning and nothing he could do to not get hit.

Ok maybe there are riders who keep their balance better after getting hit. And maybe their teams could surround their leader so that there would simply be no rider in their vicinity without an increased interest to stay on their bike for their leader's sake..

Eeh. Arguably you don't wanna be next to someone in the sandwich there and you're better off more forward where it's single file.

I had a laugh at Tratnik who almost caused people to crash cause he braked like a madman to wait for Roglic lol.

anyone spinning this any way other than "bad luck that he happened to be directly behind the ONE rider that fell" is doing so in bad faith.
Not necessarily - like I explained, I believe most of the possible reasonable measures to avoid crash were taken this time. With the exception of him riding away from his team (or his team riding away from him) and his line could be safer by riding on the inside line making sure no one can slide into him. Far from saying he was asking for it, of course…

The problem is, he has a terrible track record regarding crashing out and both his detractors and fans are on high alert each time there’s an incident involving him. Instead of bad faith, try to interpret it as frustration…

"Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives" likely means that having a touch of excitement, unpredictability, or adventure can make life more interesting and enjoyable. "Roglstomp" in this context represents something lively, fun, or out of the ordinary that adds spice to one's life. It suggests that routine and predictability may not be as fulfilling as embracing a bit of adventure or novelty from time to time.

Funny. That made me ponder why I don't really associate the emotion of "frustration" with Roglic meeting tarmac.

Because it's weird how whenever he crashes, either one of two scenario's seem to take place:
- He'll finish the stage, looking battered, bruised and wrecked as all hell. Everybody worries. After three weeks he somehow takes podium or wins it.
- He has to abandon. Then happily shifts into preparation for the next GC. Which he subsequently wins.

To name a few: Kelderman, Porte, Gesink, Zakarin (might be confusing him with another Katusha rider) and a bunch more that I can't name off the top of my head: you know that if they go down, they go down bad, break some bone and it's immediately finished.
When a rider goes down, it always sucks, but when Roglic goes down I'm more often like "meh, he'll be alright".

The crash is a slight concern (as always, it's never ideal), but tbh I'm more concerned about the next crashes. It's inevitable on roads which have been hot, dry & dusty for months to become a literal ice skating rink after the first rainfall in ages.

I think this first week of the Vuelta 2023 could get a little bit nasty. And if Rog gets dropped today due to yesterday's crash, f*ck it, he can recover in the second & third weeks to stomp the lot.

So first two stages not all that optimal for Rogla. In first he lost time due to Jonas puncturing. Here initially much more was expected from JV. In second stage JV was active all day, prior to the race, to prevent the "GC sprint". This in my opinion suited Jonas, Remco, Mas ... type of riders much more then Rogla. So it looks like plan A for JV is ATM Jonas. Likely the idea is Jonas will gain 10 minutes on the competition on some climb. And i guess if that by any chance fails, hopefully for Rogla to still be in reach. Team not actively working on that for now. That is in the end he only needs 1s more then the competition. For now it looks like it's on him to make sure that is still in reach. For Tratnik it looks like Rogla is plan A!

So all in all, now when team dynamics got reveled, i guess time to relax, it's holidays after all, keep the powder dry. Long way to go. No special need to be bothered with team tactics all that much. Whoever attacks, just follow for now. If forced, then to stretch legs a bit, to win a stage. But this is not a priority. We'll see.

I think this Vuelta is totally JV "win together" thing. Both captains look relaxed and easy going. Not really worried about the outcome of this race. Both already won their season goals and don't need this Vuelta badly. Having said that, i think i saw 3 JV guys looking at Roglič if he's going to make it to the bus (or tripped trying) :joycat:

Yeah but they both botched the sprint today. Primoz was boxed in and Jonas conceded the flatter outside line to Remco and had to move there to start his chase. Easy for me to say after everyone made that climb but Remco was attentive enough to let loose at just the right time/place. He didn't think about stopping, but hey, when you win a little blood makes it look that much tougher.

I'm just happy Roglič looks good after crash.
