Roglic wasn't at 100% in that Tour. He crashed hard during the Criterium du Dauphine before the Tour. So hard that he had to abandon before the last stage even though he was in leader's jersey. There were rumours a few days before the Tour, that he won't even start, because of the injuries he suffered during the crash.

If he doesn't crash in the Dauphine, he wins the 2020 Tour, I'm sure of that.

Two seconds will do. Not even i would bare the thought of Rogla winning the Tour by 1s. Especially not in the ultimate stage of the Tour 2024. But i get it. Some like more predictability and to play it safe. And really do enjoy a 10 minutes difference.

Not on Rogla watch!

What makes you think that roglic wasn't in his top shape during that Tour? I never saw a superior level until today by him in other grand tour. He also benefited from pogacar losing 45 s in the echelons on that Tour. He could never makes differences in the mountains, except for la loze when again he attacked to late and just won 15 s to pogacar.

I was prepared to say the same, but you beat me to it. I believe it was Dumoulin who said Roglic’s numbers in training right before that Tour were terrible. He also gave Pogi a lot of leeway, not expecting him to be able to beat him in the ITT, which was a mistake. And he got cooked in that helmet. But mostly it was the bad prep. That was also Covid year, so it was a strange one.

It's always the latter. Because i checked "his" procyclingstats. Roglič was 4th most popular rider behind mvdP, Sagan and Wout in 2021. So ahead of all the others. 2022, he was behind all of those he wrote but not behind Vingegaard. So i have no idea what stats did he use. 2023 results are not in yet by the way.

It's clear R. is extremely popular cyclist and that tells a lot for a guy that doesn't give good interviews, isn't outspoken, doesn't have flashy riding style and isn't coming from a big cyclists country. Haters gonna hate (mostly Belgiums, who hate everything anyway).

On the bold, that's actually accurate.

I don't hold - or I would like to think I don't - any prejudice but certainly there's a word for when you notice a pattern that has been bugging you for too long.

Who was the most popular rider in 2025?

Tadej PogaÄar had 1509010 profile views in 2025. Matthew Brennan is the biggest riser with 345511 more views than the previous year.

Nah that isn’t right, Roglic is #1 obviously. There must be something wrong with PCS. Maybe they have a bot problem.

PCS bases its "popularity measurement" in the number of profile views. If I click a rider to know about his palmares that does not mean he is popular. It means I want to know, compare, assess, notice patterns, improvement or downfalls.

Assuming popularity can be equated with views, followers or thread numbers is complex. For instance, a rider from a cycling country experiences a "boom" in popularity just because the underlying strutucture of his fandom is already prone to follow a newcomer. If that cycling country is small or medium size, of course population size has a bearing on a rider's popularity. But are they in reality popular outside it?

Nairo and Uran are different sucessful Colombian riders and yet the later has more followers in instagram, although Nairo is unsmistakingly "better". But how popular is Nairo Quintana in Europe? And why not?

Roglic is from a small country, is a late bloomer, is not outspoken nor a spoiled self-entitled brat, low-key but laser-sharp focus in training and races and yet he is immensily popular by every account and I would say mostly because he has a tragic way about him.

And yet there are people not used to make a sound argument that say that he's not popular BECAUSE he does not attack. And yet here I am attempting to at least build the foundations of a dialog in the Roglic thread for these witless approaches that sound as either trolling or lousy excuses for a conversation.

So basically you are saying, you can't measure this. In that case I'll just go by PCS standards, and follow them. You can say you don't agree, that's fine. But that a ranking, and the one I use to say that Roglic isn't as popular as those other 5.

Instead of finding it weird that Roglic is only 6th, which honestly I don't even find weird, makes sense to me. You could say, wow Vingegaard is not that popular, only 5th and he's the TDF winner. Roglic is even very close to Vingegaard, which tells you something about Vingegaard being less likeable than Roglic.

I said it's complex. Measurements need to be framed and interpreted. Popularity builds on herd mentality and it spreads by infecting. And it's never gonna be the nerds at PCS that are going to give your prejudices some grounding just because they establish a popularity ranking and Roglic is 6th there.

The point is that making an argument about a rider being popular because of his riding style is dumb.
