Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

Jorgenson has a better season than Roglic at the moment.
If Jorgenson is better than Roglic from now on, then he would probably have been a better investment than Roglic. And noone is claiming that Roglic at 5M was the best possible investment at the time. Most likely not - only one investment per year is the best possible investment and it could very well be that last year it was Jorgenson.

However, claiming that 5M should buy you a TdF victory, is wrong. If it was that simple, anyone could do it.... It's not like when they were making a purchase Roglic was the man to beat in TdF. This year, Roglic's performance is in line with his performance in the previous years, corrected for the effect of changing a team.

I kind of never thought that was possible but damn would that suck!

It's the only concern I ever had tbh. In fact it's the only concern I have about the Tour itself. Just look at how 'easily' Buchmann went to hospital yesterday in Suisse.

People talk blablabla about Rog not being able to follow Pog, Vinge or whomever... but the absolute only thing to be really concerned about is an injury stopping him from competing. If he competes to the fullest of his abilities & loses, then that's sport!

But it's the crashes & carrying injuries which will always be the biggest issue (& has plagued his career in the TdF so far).

I got so spoiled by his "battle it through" attitude that unless half his ass in hanging off while he's riding, in my mind - he's perfectly fine :)

Point being; Roglic is on track and won a targeted race he was trying to use as training after 2 crashes. Who does that?
Not Remco. Not Jonas. Not Pogi.
It definitely remains to be seen if he's still hurt or can improve on his depth for the Tour. If he outright wins, some of his naysayers offer they will "quit cyclng". Many would be good with that outcome.

And I offer back to the naysayers Good Bye! We don't need your negativity every day. Its quite tiresome.

If you count whites as wins they are tied at 4 wins. He's also ridden more races therefore has had more opportunity.

Hey I'm American and reveling we have a real racer on the road again :).
Indeed! In some ways it doesn’t top Kuss’s Vuelta win, but on the other hand having a spring with 1st and 2nd places in the most important week-long races and a win in a Classic is something not seen from U.S. riders in a very long time!

He was clearly indicating ( in a video snippet after the finish) the shoulder was bothering him at the end of his sprint for the 1st stage win.

That does what? He needs to be judged based on since he was taken over from Jumbo. And his season clearly isn't as good as he used to have.
Judged by whom and why would he need that? Only JV's valuation counts and with Red Bull's history a fair amount of that is fan perception and support.
It's the age old argument of $$$$ parity to sports performance on fan prejudice steroids....
"He can't be the greatest because...."
Greatness for all of these contenders is a rear-view mirror evaluation. Until they're done and the impact of contribution can be measured we're all projecting our wishes, which is OK. Most here just hope for equal footing at the start of competitions where everyone can deliver the best performances. IMO they all deserve to win and they dedicate ridiculous amounts of time and risk exposure to accomplish some measure of progress.
I never did get an answer to my question about a better option for JV's money.

It's warm here and I took an ill-advised uphill gravel route with scattered, square edged talus to make it mean, but not on purpose. It was challenging and my major distraction from hot, grinding discomfort was the company of large Mormon crickets....Thousands of them and they make snapping sounds as you ride over them.
The descent was bone jarring and sketchy on 10% grades but the most disturbing part was the Sci-Fi horror show of swarming crickets cannibalizing their wounded.
Some of these conversations are like that.

I know you’re using it as a metaphor about the forum interactions, but I’m going on a tangent ‘cause you’ve reminded me about a day in my cross-country (US.) bike trip long, long ago. We encountered (in South Dakota I think) a cricket swarm like you described. Every inch of the road was covered, and sometimes they would sproing up and hit me in chest which was a little alarming. And there was that steady crunching sound under our wheels as we rolled through. We had to stop a couple of times to brush the globs of smushed crickets out of our brake calipers. Quite memorable.

Roglic revealing many weak points in Dauphine,at the time broken teammates was not one of them. The opposite the Russian was rolling up the hills. Roglic riding very relative and only squirting off w few hundred meters to go, Pogacar going from 25k out and riding solo in the wind and speeds and watts of nobody else. And if Roglic's rehab includes falling off his bike twice in a week, good luck with that. Roglic saying something before the race that was supposed to make sense, I need to get used to my teammates and they need to get used to me. So you can be an optimist but what his teammates got used to was him jumping headfirst on the pavement 20% of the time he is racing, after he jumped off his bike to break bones a couple of months ago. Best predictor for the future is the past and Rolling Roglic is on the ground way too much. Ski jumping, bike racing and his new thing is gymnastics!! Guy is obviously awesome because he absolutely sucks at bike handling and pack sensibilities.
