This certainly helps him a lot in the fight for a podium. A win against the top 2 is highly unlikely, so if he’s smart he’ll focus on Remco. He’ll need a nice cushion before the final TT. I think he’ll have to go for it in one the the mountain stages. Either by attacking or simply trying to follow when the top 2 attack.

And how do you access he is doing (or will do) his best career performance? He needs to follow Pog/Vingegaard? Come 30 seconds behind? How do you know?
Placement and performance are not the same thing. For those of us who aren’t betting on the outcomes or somehow on the team’s payroll, it’s exciting to watch an athlete you enjoy performing at their best possible level.

I still hope he goes all out at least once. All cards on the table, early attack to go for yellow. He probably will just focus on Remco and go for podium though

As far as my own analysis goes, I think both Evenepoel & Rog were still fighting for yellow, not each other. If they were fighting each other then the gap to the front 2 would have ballooned. But they kept on riding hard together & chased the two in front.

Maybe it was to distance those behind but you don't race thinking behind, you think ahead. I mean obviously a TdF win is not on the cards right now (for either Rog or Evenepoel) but I really believe these 4 riders are thinking of the same thing (victory).

In any case it was super engrossing & very spectacular stage tbh, especially that 30km GC fight at the end.

Why so sour? He did great today, except that crash, but he'll be fine. He's clearly getting stronger and stronger and I am much more optimistic than yesterday. Gooo Rogla!
He was not bad today. But stronger and stronger ? As a more explosive climber he took twice advantage on Evenepoel (Rodriguez etc). But he was dropped first by Pogacar. Later by Vingegaard. On the next climb, as one of the best an most explosive climbers, he could first follow Vingegaard and drop Evenepoel (again). But Roglic faded a second time and he was overtaken by Evenepoel. In the end, during the short flat section and the last short climb he couldn't help Evenepoel a lot. Evenepoel had to do most of the work. As a far better descender than Evenepoel he was struggling to keep the wheel of Evenepoel.... and crashed...

So, yes, Roglic was a bit stronger than on San Luca and Galibier. But only in terms of explosiveness. Not in terms of endurance. We'll have to wait till the longer climbs.

Seriously lacking a team

I think he will improve everyday but where is his team if he needs to try and get time back ??? (at least on Remco but who knows as) anyone high on GC can blow any day in the week to come and he then would need riders with him to get those minutes

I think if his crash doesn't affect him, he'll continue to go toe-to-toe with those 3 in the hope the tide turns & his legs either match or surpass them by the end of week 3. I don't think the plan is more complicated than that.

I did notice him searching for a gel today (& I think he got mentioned by the commissaires for taking something within the final 20km), i.e. something concerning because that's exactly the sort of thing teammates are there for in the final part of a stage.

In the high mountains he has Hindley & that's it.

Roglic and Pogacar need to start sharing gels.
