Considering tomorrow Giro visits Slovenia, a short trip down the memory lane, on what was the most Slovene stage in the 2023 edition.

As for 2025 edition and if i have to cheery pick, there is an annual cherry festival in Goriška brda in this part of the year and a trophy from Rogla 2023 Giro edition is on display.

I mean why would you expect for Rogla to be down in time if plan A would went accordingly? Without crash on stage 9 Rogla would likely even contest for stage win. Without puncture he would at least be even with Ayuso. Point being don't act that if crash and puncture wouldn't have happened, that del Toro or Ayuso would be ahead at this point in time. Del Toro likely around a minute behind, Ayuso would be closer but likely not ahead. Anyway, plan A didn't happen, life happened. Rogla adapted and lets race. Who says that pushing the UAE duo back is out of the picture just because plan A didn't materialise. We'll see.
I’m not “acting”. Seems clear to me he’d be down. To each their own.

I mean del Toro is performing great, he might still end up winning this Giro if he can hold in mountains. But acting like most of his current lead isn't due to others crashing and/or puncturing, that just isn't the case. Ayuso too, most of his advantage, basically all, is due to Rogla puncturing. So are UAE really hammering it? So far i would say not so much and if not going against Rogla it just as well might end up be enough. Eventually Rogla will call on their bluff and then lets see on how it unfolds.

So he’s what, 30 or so seconds down without all that? I’m guessing, I haven’t looked at the times.

Good TT. He’s strong. No excuses needed, he’s sure not making any.

But to this point, another rider has looked stronger.
If you do look at the times, and why not it's actually a stage race, Roglic right now trails Ayuso by :57 and he lost 1:15 on the gravel, if he had finished with Ayuso on that stage Roglic would be :18 up on Ayuso, and :20 down on Del Toro.

I’m not “acting like most of his current lead isn’t due to crashing or puncturing…”

That’s literally, exactly what I said.

Because I was at a local pub, on my phone, having a nice draft of Duvel on a Friday evening, like a good (half) Flemish boy, and didn’t feel like doing research on exact times. :)

Sounds like I was about 10 seconds off. I am glad someone looked it up! Cheers!

The current situation was not planned this way. On the first few days, the whole team rode a lot at the front.

But since Roglic is apparently not quite fit and the team is unfortunately much weaker than hoped, they are now a little behind. With two UAE men at the front it will be difficult. But if Roglic were at the front, he would be constantly attacked. His team wouldn't be able to help him. That's why it's even better to be behind at the moment, even if the gap can't simply be closed again.

Because it's two weeks of Roglic not being in the mix in stages, it over states the real situation IMHO.

We are yet to really have a decent mountain stage. The Giro proper begins Tuesday.

When I wrote this Roglic was in a pretty good position for the win IMO given his team.

Now, not at much. Going to have to be offensive on a number of occasions. Ayuso will be losing his mind.

He crashed again today. I cant believe it. Every race i have the hope that he just end the race without any crash or bad luck but i think its not possible for him:(.

Del Toro was also involved in the crash. How could he made it in the first group?
Unbelivable.

Why is Roglic wasting his season like this?
Instead of focusing properly for a TDF podium battle and a potential record Vuelta victory he decided to show up to this horrible race.
What is he banking on? What if they cancel Finestre? This is expected from them. What a huge waste of time, Primoz.

How bad was the crash? Didn’t see it. And had did Del Toro crash and still end up in the front group? Did Ayuso crash too?

I just saw the small tear on Rog's cuissard. I think he came off and landed on his backside on some cobbles.

No idea about Ayuso. What happened to Ciccone was nasty though. And yeah, some people (aka cycling followers) like the drama more than the actual sport. I just hope the best riders are fit enough to put on a show next week in the high mountains.

Sounds like it caused a split with Del Toro and Ayuso in the first pursuit group with Carapaz. Carapaz gets the free ride with his winning teammate in the break. EF has to be over the moon. Roglic not beat up in crash.

Roglic, Bernal and their small group were forced to chase 25km to finish according to reports. We get no f*ckn video, including highlights here unless you want to pay Max network an obscene amount. The only situation worse than Roglic's two big crash-caused time losses would've been paying Max to watch it in real time.

If he had ridden the Tour-Vuelta against Pogacar and Vingegaard, the question would be why he didn't do the Giro.

Ultimately, if he wants to beat them in the Tour or the Vuelta, he has to make up the Giro deficit against these rivals.
