Likely cheated for sixth, it is what it is and in the end Giro loses too, historically speaking. As a race you do want the biggest champions to be listed as annual winners, or at least to be beaten by a better rider on the road. That is on what pushes your race up the hierarchy.

In retrospective the inclusion of mini Strade Bianche ended up to be a mistake, took out most of the GC riders and inflicted significant injuries. A lot of people warned about it, that is, this is modern pro road peloton, there is a reason most of GC riders don't ride Strade Bianche. On top of that Giro is heavily affected by weather and adding more guarantees, to have a crash fest, that just shows on how much out of touch some people making decision are, similar to stage 21 of Tour 25. A day of circus in my opinion doesn't in any way make a GT grander, compared to GC favourites battling it out through and through the stages. So in the end i do have to wonder, on why are people making such decisions prepared to trade GT greatness for one day freak show. It just doesn't make sense.

To be fair Marc Lamberts said he told Rog not to go to the Giro because it didn't suit his qualities. We all knew about the weather and the route. To fans and observers it just seemed like low hanging fruit because Pog, Vinge & Evenepoel weren't going & in the end that was totally misleading.

GT's are tough and require a load of stuff that didn't go in Rog's favor this time. It is what it is.

The next question is how he will get through the first 9 days in TdF. Its similar to 2015, lots of classics style racing in Northern France and lots of stress and then basically going into the mountains from there on out. If you make it out, you can top-3, but its hard to see anyone not getting blown completely away by Jonas and Tadej these years in the mountains.

I was thinking when the route came out it the first week suited him with the uphill sprints but now that's the #1 thing he's doing backwards all year.

Nah. Here i feel that Giro organiser should take their part of responsibility, bad publicity and image after all will affect them the most. Inclusion of mini Strade Bianche was a mistake, as it took out most of the GC riders and injured them. On top of some other stages resulting in crash fest. But there things are a bit more moot. Mini Strade Bianche on the other hand did exactly on what it was planted there to do. Intention.

In theory it should suit him, but I highly doubt it will in reality. The fight for positions on these rather easy days with harder finals and a super fresh peloton will be tough on Roglic. There are basically 4-5 of these days
I think he should actually stop fighting for position and chill in the back until the penultimate hill and then move forward once instead of trying to stay in the first 20 positions the entire final hour.

Which is why he'll smash them, we'll get excited and then he'll do the ITT backwards.

There's no logic or reason with this rider. And it's better that way. I remember years ago debating his cadence on climbs here. Like literally he went through a few years when he started pulling a huge gear in the Vuelta like he was peak Ullrich or something. Then since Monte Lussari he's got the fast spinning back again.

No idea what that was all about but he probably has his reasons. I just enjoy the (bumpy) ride.

RogloBasso is the new meta.

He has already completed the first half of the prophecy of Mirri Maz Dur, which is "To win the Tour you must crash the Giro".

Gianetti and Pogacar are not ready.
Plugge and Vingegaard are not ready.

As for the Tour, the usual, heal first, train, kiss your loved ones goodbye and go to work. Riding conservative, full gas on TT, follow attacks by aliens and wait for the opportunity, likely at stage 21. Not much else one can do. Lets do that latter, still pissed about the Giro.

he crashed in pouring rain on a TT bike, it was likely also just bad luck. Egan Bernal who is one of the best bike handlers in the race did the same thing only during the actual TT.
No, he clearly went into that corner too fast, which there was no reason to do in a recon. Stefano Garzelli on RAI coverage, who is by no means anti-Roglic, said this crash was his own fault, so it's not just me saying it. Besides, if you look at the video he clearly went into the corner with too much speed. For a guy who goes down as much as he does and already in this Giro, frankly it was surprising in those conditions that he wasn't just super cautious.

Any footage from today's crash?

Assuming he fell down on his own volition, that's still the same amount of self inflicted crashes as Pogi this season, in way more race days, but let's all choose to ignore the inconvenient and uncomfortable truths.

"You need to 4 times crash to justify leaving the Giro?"

Fair points. It's clear that the giro is by far the GT which suit him the least. Nevertheless he has one on his palmares. I respect that he didn't just go all in for the tour.

Crashing is crashing, if it’s your own fault or not doesn’t matter. You can also say that positioning and handling a crash that happens in front of you is part of the job.
Then why is Roglic the only rider where the narrative is "he just can't ride his bike" when he crashes whereas for others it's omg poor xyz so unlucky.

It is narrative motivated nonsense, and I think it's completely asinine in cases when a rider in in the right place and gets taken out cleanly by a 3rd party.

People tend to focus more on this when the riders are able to win trophies and lose them due to crashes.
