Let’s start with Evenepoel’s TDF2024 climbing performances was w/kg better than Pogi and Vingegaard in the years before.
Context is very important and you are neglecting it. Remco did only better in PdB where his main "rival" was almost 3 minutes faster and his teammate was one minute slower while Vingegaard was 1'40" ahead.
Other than PdB, Vingegaard had better numbers in Marie Blanque, Cote de Domancy, he would have better numbers in Joux Plane (they are breaking Pantani's record) if he didn't have caught Pogacar.
But you still didn't say where I was wrong.

How many stages to people think Roglic will complete this year in the TdF?

I don't think he makes it to first rest day. I finally took a good look at the profiles and I see to many crashes looking at the first week.

I think they should keep him out of the TdF and save him for the Vuelta. He will get 100th win in the Vuelta if they do.

From what I understand that is what the team wanted (giro + vuelta) but roglic couldn't be convinced. I'm not even sure he really wanted to do the giro.

I think Roglic will be a serious contender for 3rd place this TdF and he will not be far from Evenepoel
Just as Yates won Giro with calm, calculated efficiency and economy. If Roglic can stay up, out of trouble, when he wins it's like Yates, consistency.
Quality rider who is profoundly unlucky at last few TDF appearances.. I hope he does it!!
At 35 years old, he and Bora are probably thinking overtime about the future

considering he crashed before any high mountain stages in both 2021 and 2024 and is usually a much better climber than the two riders who finished 3rd in those races, it is in fact reasonable to expect he would've been on the podium.
I didn't see anything I thought supported that. I thought he was quite good, maybe as good as we've seen him. And he was a bit behind Evenepoel pretty much everywhere. Didn't see Evenepoel fade, in fact maybe the opposite.

My issue is with "at minimum a podium". Sorry that's not the minimum. DNF is the minimum. 5th after that, likely 4th. We saw where folks were.

"i didn't see anything" is subjective. objectively they never made it to the multiple mountain stages together, where objectively Roglic is always much better than Remco. you can't extrapolate a TT and one hilly stage into the rest of a race which had 4 high mountain stages left. you should know better than that.

Of course it's subjective. I stand by everything I said above, it covers this response.

We joke around that he is washed and old, but he surely doesnt need any aid yet to be able to hop on and off the bike?
He certainly doesn't need any help getting off the bike..
Joking aside, without any major mishaps podium should very well be possible. I like the dude and just hope we get so see him ride well and finish the race.

At least in this thread you admit on how silly suggestions you had in the Rogličes team thread.
Silly suggestion you say?

Is Roglic the first rider of this tour to have been abandoned by the team?

Meeus will be happy. He'll be able to tell the press how happy he is. He'll like that.

In all seriousness there's not much they can do anyway. They don't have favorites anywhere in this race. It's a team to look for opportunities, not dominate anything.

Rog just has to survive and then do his thing and see how it goes.

If this is the TDF team for Bora I don't get it. Why does Meeus have 3 leadout guys? The Redbull trainers are delusional about his level in the sprints. Where is Tratnik? Where is Martinez? This is disrespectful to Roglic.

Roglic does not need some good team in the mountains. He needs to survive the sprint stages and the week one classic stages. There will be carnage. Thats why they brought in Moscon and Mick von Dijke.

It's a good team to guide him through the first the first 10 days which I think is the most important in this TDF. After that, it's up to Roglic and Lipowitz themselves.

They're taking a similar approach as Soudal Quick-Step with Merlier and Van Lerberghe.

Since when does a GC rider not need proper mountain support? Especially Roglic. I can give multiple examples of him being saved by his teammates in the mountains.

Got to love bora's strategy of putting all the pressure of protecting roglic on one extremely young and inexperienced climber.

What was the point of signing tratnik?

Dont really understand the fuss about the team selection. It makes sense.

It is probably a great learning experience for Lipo to ride with Roglic here. Maybe he is even able to do a great result himself or win a stage.

They have Vlasov to help out.

With UAE and Visma teams... with Pog and Vinge... it doesnt matter what team they send with Roglic. He just gotta try to hang on and ride within himself. Maybe he can get a stage and a great result. There is also always the possibility unforeseen things happen in the race. Crashes and whatnot. Maybe the stars align. You never know.

As expected Meeus fought himself into the TDF team. Well deserved too. As long as Lipowitz keeps his form it's enough to help Roglic.

It's not like Roglič needs a whole team to fight Pog and Vinge. They are in their own world. For the rest (third place) he must NOT crash so this team is powerful to lead him through first week/10 days. And later in the high mountains it's individual quality that counts. I still don't believe Roglič can get through 3 weeks without crashing. If not himself, someone else will find a way to take him down.
