Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

Still had just about 2 years as legit GC contender and then Pog arrived at the scene. Still first Slovenian superstar and the one who finally brought Slovenia to the cycling map.

Yup, Roglic hit his prime in 2019 (or maybe in 2018) so he had 1-2 years of prime before Pog entered his prime in 2020. Obviously it's because Rogla was a late bloomer: ski-jumper who didn't even have a bike at the age of 20 (Pog was winning WT races at that age).

Getting 2017 Vuelta Contador vibes here, which means he could end up the best climber in the race still…

More like 2017 Tour Contador vibes...

If you put it all on the road, there is not much to add in words.
Getting to Paris would be his best Tour result in 5 years and it's not like he's intentionally breaking not to get a good result.
If someone tries to criticize Roglič for lack of professionalism or not putting in the effort, I think they should take a step back and think again about who they are talking.

He's quite candid he's there to give it everything no matter the result, but it's absolutely shocking that a rider would make a light hearted comment about his own history of crashing out of a race. RedBull should freeze him out immediately.

It has always been said about him that he never gives up. I think that's reading him wrong. He gives up when he know he can't win anymore. When he stopped ski jumping it was because of one huge crash. In cycling it will be because of many small crashes.

I think he's resigned and is retiring. He will never be like Froome; riding without getting anything is just not in his dna. He's gonna find something new just like he did with cycling.

But thank god I'm just a noob and hence happily will be wrong ❤️

Dno, its quite obvious he has given up already on the win. Which is being realistic, but it seems very weird to have a legit podium contender say that he only really cares about getting to Paris which I know obviously isn't the case as he has ambitions to get onto the final step. It just comes badly across IMO, both to fans, his employer and his teammates.

Why are his media answers suddenly being overanalyzed to this level?
He has always given completely empty nonchalant answers downplaying his ambition.
That whole fake "I don't care" attitude was the main reason he never warmed up to me and a lot of other people.

Yeah, he tuned it up a bit but I don't see this big change of tone that a lot of people are seeing.
Obviously sponsors won't be happy with these statements but that I guess was already the case plenty of times before.

I don't understand why anyone is offended by his comments.

It is clear that after Giro he doesn't have the best possible form and even if he were in top form, challenging Vingegaard and Pogacar would hardly be possible.
It would just look stupid if he was saying that he is beating everyone and he hasn't said anything about not trying at all.

He is a bit like Kimi Raikkonen was in F1. It's not like he doesn't care about racing anymore. He just doesn't care about same questions over and over again especially when he is not fastest anymore and just wants to do his thing/best.

People want lies they can believe. That's why!

The one time he stated his ambitions (Vuelta 2023) he got absolutely roasted by the press and influencers.

Yep, quite bad given that Lipowitz was much better. Not sure if 5th in GC (Almeida and Remco are in better climbing form) is worth it, he should probably try to take stages.

Still better than Vingegaard eh.

I said Almeida was a decent barometer on this course and Rog was 5 seconds behind. It could have been better but it could have been a lot worse.

I'd call it a diesel Rog performance with as always a much better second half.
