Interesting the bookies have him as a favourite for the overall win right now, ahead of Izagirre, Froome and Porte.
Considering that the only remaining "mountain stage" also isn't that mountainous and that there is a pretty long ITT on the last stage, I think that absolutely makes sense.

Yes we've already seen that theoretically superior climbers aren't in fact superior enough to put time into him if the climbs aren't hard this season.

Wow brilliant performance today. :surprised:

It was thrilling until the end for the stage win and for the 2nd overall, he was definitely taking some risky lines on the descent. Very happy for his win and 3rd place overall. In the end that break by Yates and Porte on the queen's stage proved to br the decisive one, since the hilly TT suited both of them as well.

Great performance to win the TT but still disapointing that he did not win the Overall. Course was tailor made for him.

he's developing into brilliant TT-ist, real powerhouse! He's going to be a serious threat in one-week races with TT's and without big mountains

A ridiculous Porte was ahead of him. And Yates.

These hilly ITTs are really perfect for him. He is stronger than the specialists on the climbs and he is way stronger than the GC men/climbers on the flat.

For GC he had no chance against Porte, he was too strong. All in all another fantastic result for Primoz. He's been amazing this season. Apart from the fantastic four (Bala, GVA, Phil and Kwiatek) I don't see many riders who are having better seasons than him thus far. I'd say Porte, Quintana when he wins Asturias and that's it. Of course Sagan and Contador have been good but they lack (big) wins. Things will change after the GTs off course and by no means I want to compare Rogla to these riders, yet. But he is climbing the rankings and he is climbing them fast, even faster that I thought he would. Great job, keep getting stronger, Rogla!

Calmejane.

But indeed, he's doing great so far. I think he's not (yet) strong enough for the real mountains and three weeks, but he's working on it..

Is it already known where he will race in may and june?

He said in a radio interview he will first have some rest, some altitude training, he will do the national road race and TT races and I think some smaller races, not sure which ones yet.

Makes a change from a ridiculous Valverde or Froome I suppose. Porte always looks at his best in one week long stage races. Be interesting to see what sort of rider Roglic develops into in his peak years.

He said he'll ride Ster ZLM. Strange decision. I think anything else would be better...Suisse, Dauphine or Slovenia. Oh well, team knows best I suppose.

Really? Ster ZLM? :surprised: Which radio interview, is it also available online?

Re: The official Primož Roglič is the new Landa thread

I suppose that they prefer a small race for Rogla to be fresh towards the tour, but normally the team doesn´t go to Slovenia, so the other option is Ster ZLM in similar dates.
He can test his form in the Prologue and the hilly day, normally he shold win quite easily the GC as well.

I also think that's the idea. Not sure about the bold part. I don't know the parcours and the startlist yet.

Tomorrow starts Roglic's journey to Dumoulin's land. No, he won't win the Tour. At least not this year. But I expect a very strong performance throughout the three weeks in France. Be it a stage win, a GC top12 or at least a couple of strong showings against the GC contenders in select stages. Anything less would be a disappointment. What I'm 100% sure about is that he'll fly in the two ITTs. I'm not expecting the yellow jersey after the first stage because at least Dennis should be too strong, but Rogla won't be far behind. Then on stage 5 I'm going to be ready for a pleasant surprise.

For the prologue tomorrow (Ster ZLM) a top5 would be nice. At first I thought Van Emden is riding this but he's not on the startlist anymore. Now maybe even a win is not that improbable. But he is coming straight from altitude training on Sierra Nevada where he spent three weeks with Gesink and Bennett. His form is a bit of a question mark. We'll see.

A bit disappointing he isnt riding Suisse, a race he would have big chances of winning seeing how things have unfolded so far.

Re: The official Primož Roglič is the new Landa thread

Gesink,Bennett and Roglic not competing in Dauphine or Suisse. Is quite an odd approach towards Le Tour, but perhaps could be a good decision, we will see.

Lotto Jumbo has the plan of going to France only for stages, but with Gronewegen and Gesink is enough for that task. Roglic and even Bennett should have the freedom to try GC, at least if they dont loose time during the first week.

So far he hasn't shown he can survive really hard mountain stages and it's up in the air if he ever will.

Imo only Benett should go for GC.

Unlike Romandie the Tour de Suisse has some real mountains. I don't think his climbing is good enough for this terrain, but i guess we'll see at the Tour.
