Alright where did Roglic gain huge because of his stronger team? Certainly not when the rain jacket incident happened? Other than that he dropped Roglic twice for like 30s total, got dropped once for about 12s, and got deleted in all the bonus sprints and in a time trial.

It was a Grand Tour with aobut 6 big MTFs, including the Angliru, 30km of flat ITT and most of Carapaz gains were due to a rain jacket.

Or maybe some of the difference between the 20 Vuelta and the 19 Giro was because Roglic had an actual team in one of the races.

If the GC goes completely down the toilet before the rest day & he gets dropped (& without further accidents), we could at least expect some long range mountain bravado by week 3 if his condition improves enough. Maybe the polka jersey? or maybe just a stage hunting exercise (like the good old days of 2017).

I'm getting ahead of things there but whatever, just take each day at a time & see what happens.

The man is as hard as Nails, he will NOT quit unless he cannot ride. Bravo Primoz!
I'll be happy to see him come back enough to win a Stage in this Tour and then move on to the next race. The man doesn't brood on losses, he looks Ahead and then goes out and wins them.
Last year everyone was saying he'd be mentally devastated. That's because they don't Think like a Champion. Primoz Does. He was so mentally devestated he came back to win the momument LBL and the Vuelta! The man is made of steel. Let him ride his way and enjoy that he has the heart of a Champion!

I agree. I'm also a total realist & I'm prepared for the worse.

I mean "if" he ships a load of time in the TT, I agree with bajbar i.e. Roglic should just quit & focus on the Vuelta. Because tomorrow's TT technically suits his profile, so if it's "bad" in terms of time loss, this Tour is going nowhere good.

But I think JV & Roglic are themselves just taking every km & minute at a time right now, as evident today when we saw Roglic lingering in the middle (& even towards the back) of the peloton whilst guys like Pogacar & Carapaz (& even Uran or Gaudu) were sitting in their trains up front. Sure nothing happened today, but it's the first time in a while I've seen Roglic look disinterested in the GC in a Grand Tour.

I guess one stage at a time and good to see Primož made it through the day. Including the bunch sprint. His current condition is he is basically a mummy. That describes it well.

That thing he sits on, yes ass, and his back and ribs took a nasty hit. The act of getting on the bike is a rather slow process and as we can imagine it is painful. All the areas i mentioned affect the TT position.

Real challenge ahead tomorrow.

It's clear he's badly hurt. He said it was very hard for him today and this was probably the easiest stage of the whole tour.

I predict minus 3 minutes tommorow at least and quitting the Tour at the end of it. If not, JV is probably forcing him to race.

Just want to say something else. I really respect that man . He ( and his path from a guy with fancy bike with kickstand to the top cyclist ) is just ...uniqe. I am a little older cycling fan ... older then opi Valverde ... (actually I am also little older then BigMig ) and in all of those years i have not seen many cyclist with such comitment to this sport. I wish him quick recovery and all the best .

About that ... who is better Carapaz or Roglič . I have to say that i Like Ritchie a lot ... his way of riding/fighting. Actually i am not just Roglič s fan ... more Rog&Pog&Moh&andsomeothers fan. I also like Wout , Mvdp , Valverde , Hirschi. I am not picky ... . However ... in my opinion Primož is better GC rider then Carapaz.

Either way tomorrow is a turning point of this Tour edition. It's a long shot but lets hope for the best.

Another thing to consider. Olympic ITT was also a goal for Roglič, but he still hasn't secured his spot over Pogačar and Tratnik. If his performance tomorrow won't be good, there is only one opportunity left to show he deserves the spot and that's in the ITT on stage 20. Also riding for stages and picking his spots, if he recovers, could actually be good training for the Olympics road race. So it wouldn't necessary be the wrong thing to do, to continue even if he's not at 100%. Maybe wait until the first rest day and then decide. If he suffers and has difficulties just finishing stages, then he should quit, there's no point in going forward. But if he gets better day by day, he should continue. But first, let's wait for tomorrow.

On the positive side it looks like the power is getting through. Prolonged TT position is what i am worried about. Especially if it causes pain and discomfort.

Welcome youngster. I'm just a bit older that Francesco Moser! Like you I've see many good ones come and go. Primoz is indeed unique and Very Good. He has all the qualities of a Great Champion. It's a shame he never had a bike until he was 22 or his palmares would be a lot longer. But we are fortunate to have been around for his rise to the top.

Like you, I favor multiple cyclists and of active ones I am a Huge Nibali fan from before anyone ever heard of Primoz. I fell in love with Valverde when he had a Full head of hair and I also love Wout.

And yes I agree that Primoz is better than Carapaz. Much more of an all-rounder at a higher level. Actually there is little comparison between the two as Primoz's scope is much greater.

We'll see how he does tomorrow and go from there. Hopefully he can make it to the rest day and start feeling better. But the man is No Quitter, like all the great ones as long as he can ride he will ride!

p.s. Who cannot like MVDP? Such a talent with great cycling genes .

Welcome, youngsters. I remember the good ole times when I was cheering for Garin and his amazing 1903-1904 seasons. Also when we used to run behind the riders and throw stones at the ones we didn't like. Good times.

Question is how deep he has to dig. If he can make himself justice. He might pay the price this weekend if he has to dig too deep and not able to recover with his injuries on top of that.

I don't know about that last part, i.e. at least in the mountains he can shuffle around, change position & attempt to get more comfortable.

On a TT bike it's going to be a relentless grinder for all his aching body parts. I'm also thinking if he loses 3minutes + today, he should really (I mean really) just go home.

I saw Tony Martin interviewed on Eurosport as well, i.e. he looked pretty downbeat. He said Primoz is a fighter, but they're taking each day at a time with him.

A very injured Roglič losing 44 seonds to a mutant Pogačar. Not bad!! Without the crashes on stage 1 and 3 he would be up there. Unfortunate, but the important thing is that he can improve and still perform. He seemed very relieved after the finish today and said he felt better than yesterday. Losing 25 seconds to Küng and 14 to WvA on a flatish TT would be a solid performance even without the crashes. But of course, there is a different outlier here. Pogi is in a different place where one would expect him to be in a TT like that. Oh well, Tour is still long!
