No van Aert was rightfully preparing for the Worlds, he didn't need to ride the Vuelta. He should however have convinced Primoz to not put that statement out. That was rather selfish of him.

He also made some comments about Wright, that he could have kept to himself if he was smart.

He has had a really busy off-season recovering from his injuries. New baby. A lot has happened.

We will see how he goes when he comes back but Im not too sure. Think he knows that he will struggle against the likes of Pog, Vingegaard and Evenepoel.

I dont think we will see him dominate races like in the past, but he should of course be very capable still. Just more vulnerable.

So Catalunya. Then hopefully only Swiss left. To win them all. Then Giro. Then hopefully only Tour left. To win them all.

What to do with the Monuments? Rogla should likely attempt to win some more? Closer to the end of his career? A season or two dedicated for this shorter races. When he can afford to be more chunky.

We'll see.
Seems like a realistic scenario, unless he deliberately crashes into Fred Wright again.

Give it a rest. In the end it was an internal matter. Something for the peloton. We just tagged along. Now new season is ahead and that is last year's snow. Wright should worry about winning stages at the Tour and Roglič should worry about. Well. He shouldn't really worry about all that much to be honest. If he will be forced to win races such as Catalunya, Giro, nationals, worlds, Vuelta, Lombardia ... so be it. Otherwise there is no real pressure involved. For a rider being 24 in UCI rankings. We'll see.

@acm

Indeed this is likely something to participate in each year. Suitable for an in GC form type of cyclist.

Came across some interesting stats. Among currently active riders with the most wins. In the top ten all are sprinters. Roglič currently being eight. With 65 wins and counting.

Conveniently published right after the retirements of Valverde, Rebellin and Gilbert. ;)

As the article is in Slovene. Here are the numbers from the article.

Mark Cavendish: 162
Peter Sagan: 123
Arnaud Demare: 92
Elia Viviani: 87
Alexander Kristoff: 86
Edvald Boasson Hagen: 81
Francoz Nacer Bouhanni: 70
Primož Roglič: 65
Dylan Groenewegen: 64
Sam Bennett: 60

P.S. All sprinters.

Sagan is not a sprinter. Or at least was not.

Hard to say Roglic isn’t a sprinter when the last thing we saw him do was sprinting ;)

But yes, he’s racked up a lot of wins in a short amount of time compared everyone but Cav and Sagan.

In the period from 2017 to 2023, he is the rider with the most pro victories outright.

The same goes for 2018 to 2023.

In 2019 to 2023, Pogacar beats him.
