2019 Giro was well within his grasp and so was the 2020 Tour, plus last year’s Vuelta was there for the taking, if it wasn’t for the bad luck. That would have solidified him as a legend, IMO, with 4 Vuelta’s, 2 Giro’s, and 1 Tour. We’ll see how his body recovers in future GT’s, considering he’ll be 34 later this year.

I'm so happy for Primoz.
It's like the universe finally decided to give him a helping hand after so much bad luck, ordeals and setbacks.
This was the stuff of legends. Shakespeare could have written something like this Giro ending.
Rest but I think he should go to the Tour.

Great for him. I think he's probably got one good GT shot left at his age (probably Vuelta this year) before he starts getting passed out by more than just Pogacar and Vingegaard. Could still be good for week long racers and as a super dom though after that.

I think Alberto was right when he said that Primoz will need to switch teams to win the Tour. His contract is through 2025 and I know he Loves TJV, his teammates and is very happy there. But with Vingo on board, he won't get a shot at it with TJV.

I honestly think his window for winning the Tour has passed. I don't think changing teams will change that, and IMO his best chance is as a 2nd leader to Vingegaard rather than as primary leader at another team.
Same, he's past his peak and will be 34 next year. I don't think he can compete with Pogacar or Vingegaard, and unless he joined Ineos, won't get the same support as he has in a Jumbo Tour Team.

I don't even think he's past his peak. I just think he got surpassed by a better, more talented generation of riders. It happens.
Like I also like to think that Roglic still has a few years left as a GT contender, especially if it's not against Vingegaard or Pogacar.

He will win the Tour this year with an attack on Tourmalet. Pogi won't chase this time.
Exactly. If you can't beat them, join them... and Roglic doesn't have to join them, he's already on the team. Let's be honest here, Pogi and Vingegaard are a level above what we've seen in this Giro. Remember Thomas in the Tour last year, posting his best numbers ever? And remember how much better those two were? I'm sure Roglic can do better than what we've seen the past three weeks, but still, it's a different level.

What a rollercoaster. I like Thomas too. Loved his post race interview. Been watching this stuff for over 20 yrs and this one I will remember.

I too like to dream about very unlikely scenarios for my favorite riders.
I thought winning the Giro in the MTT was one of them.
Age isn't everything. As a cyclist Roglic is still relatively 'young'. He only started cycling at, what, 23 years of age? Pogacar has probably done more miles than him.
Remember that even with a suboptimal preparation he's won every race he started so far this year...

Logic would suggest you'd be correct. The downside and upside of his injury sidelines is that he hasn't raced as much as he could've. He has the drive and probably more specific knowledge with a relatively youthful overall physical progression. But we know it takes a team and riding backup to Vingegaard is a bad place to start a winning GT against a Pogacar. Unless a situation develops where he is the default starting leader with WvA and troops dedicated to him the situation isn't good. This year is a no go as he should do the Vuelta and take on Remco. Everyone would like to see that, too.
Joining Ineos? Hard to back that play for so many reasons.

Imagine the scenes if he accidentally pushes Roglič off his bike. In general, spectator interference is a bit questionable. Now I want Roglič to use ventilators to help a ski jumper.

Tbh if Roglic can manage to display the same level of performance he had in today MTT stage consistently over the whole duration of the tour de France + right tactic + right mates to help him + a little bit of luck. He can definitely be a threat to even Vingo and Pog.

I wrote a while back that post surgery he might be able to be even better than he'd ever been. He's won 73 races with a bad shoulder. When he's fully healed, and it's now fixed who knows what he might be capable of? Guess I can dream but Alberto made dreams come true often and I think they have the same attitude towards competition. Primoz just doesn't have as much natural talent.

There's no doubt that Roglic has a big engine and can drop a watt bomb like today. But can he perform at a very high level all the time without any weaker day? Maybe he was actually holding back a bit in the previous days to do it today. There would be no holding back against Pog and Vinge. I do think that he's capable of winning the Tour (one of 3 guys in the peleton right now) but it's getting more and more difficult as the required level to win has gone through the roof recently (first due to Pogacar and then due to Vinge).

Yes, there are riders who are physicaly stronger than him on the endurance side (Vingegaard, Pogačar, maybe Remco, maybe some new talents soon). But a three week race is a lotery - like this Giro has shown (and many GTs in the past - Roglič would be one to know himself). Things happen to top favourites - they crash, lose time, get sick, are not at the level expected. Everyone thought Evans will never win the Tour against Contador and Schleck in their prime. Yet the planets aligned and he won at 34.
For Primož getting the Giro ticked off is a major stepping stone - if he wins it tomorrow (fingers crossed for no bad luck) then he can basically focus on the Tour for the rest of his career from here on in. And you never know when the stars align. Next year the Tour will have a slightly shortened copy of Tokio olympic TT on stage 20 - why not give it a try.
And concerning the team - I think Roglič is happy at Jumbo and the team is the best enviroment for him. Plus, imagine there comes a Tour where something happens to Pogi or Remco (if he starts) and suddenly Rog and Vinge are far above anyone else... I am not saying it is fair... but a Dauphine 2022 scenario could be on the cards.
Concerning his career - I don't think he should obsess to much with the Tour - if it happens it happens, if not, well it is not the end of the world. He should however try to win Tour de Suisse and Lombardia - two races well suited to him and those would really look good on his palmares. 4GTs (and counting), maybe 2 (different) monuments, all 7 stage races, olympic title... that would be quite a career! Plus he has said 100 career wins is a number he would love to reach. If everything goes according to plan tomoroww, he will be on 74 already.
