Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

So will Rogla beat the mutants in July? Or will he break his Giro crash number record? No matter what, he always writes history.

My biggest concern is an anonymous battle for the podium because the cameras are focused on the front two.

I guess the team sponsor would be happy with 3rd but as a fan it's a tricky situation. He coulda arguably have a great Tour de France with good ITT's and decent showings on the climbs but since he wouldn't be competing for the overall win, as fans we wouldn't really get much (or see much).

Thank you for posting this. Rogla could have had 1 or 2 more GC hadn't he DNF so much. Just what I thought.

Then again wouldn't be as tough.

On that list there are riders who have won 5 TDFs. You can't use that statistic and count all GTs equally.

Winning the TDF has always been more difficult. We can't assume that without accidents he would´ve won the Tour. He didn't win the last Tour that ended.

TDF cannot be compared with the other GTs statistically.

It's interesting, isn't it, through the whole history of cycling for Rogla to be in such select group.

Yes.

That's why he races it almost every year 🤔

Not exclusively. Lets not forget Rogla is not a Tour winner just yet, and just look at in what company he is, historically speaking:

And in the end you have to be the toughest, using Tour as a prep for Vuelta.

Of course Rogla wants to win the Tour, he has tried many times.

Yes, as said, this is now becoming sort of a priority, due to other goals achieved, on the bucket list, or better Rogla list. Maybe winning ToS, before winning the Tour, maybe that indeed makes some further sense, but that would be nitpicking. I mean how tough would you need to be, to win ALL other stage races, before winning the Tour, never done before in history of cycling!

Winning the Tour has been a priority since 2020.

Stats doesn't seem to support that, plus there is week long stage racing involved too, monuments, Olympics ... In the end Tour is just another stage race. Due to not winning it yet, now of course the priority to win it is naturally bumped a bit higher. The only dilemma still left, to win the ToS before or after?

Rogla has tried winning the Tour since 2020.

No, not really. I mean at Visma Jonas became the favourite child, years back, competing at the Tour, hence Rogla was not supported anymore, adequately, as a team leader at Tour should be. At Vuelta 23 it deteriorated even further. So i would say maybe Tour 21 was the last proper try, beyond that the Tour was more of an afterthought. Till of course joining his new team, on where some mistakes were made, team admitting they burned out basically before Tour 24 even started, due to immense desire, can't really blame them for that.

So all in all Tour 25, this will be Rogličes next proper try, after years. It takes a special person, to put yourself back in such position again.

Rogla has tried to win the Tour since 2020, but kind of lost the captain to Jonas.

Roglic always got his support in TDF from Visma. 2020, 2021, 2022 too. In 2023 Roglic decided he wanted to do the Giro+Vuelta double.

2021 was likely the last serious attempt, when it comes to team support. If healthy, then Tour 2025 likely to be the next proper attempt again, after years of Tour basically being an afterthought.

@AmRacer

Rogla didn't crash. Somebody else in the bunch has, not all riders have such superior riding skills, as Rogla.

This is basically Beavis and Butt Head conversation here.

Basically yes. I for sure feel like that, responding to @AmRacer. Thanks for pointing that out.

I find it a bit dishonest to say his other attempts weren't proper. He attempted multiple times, but failed due to crashes. Not to mention he had the support in 2022, but also here crashed.
