From franchise runner to “mode vacado”: Primoz Roglic’s worrying metamorphosis
"It’s incredible the speed with which Primoz Roglic went from franchise runner to anonymity within Red Bull BORA. And apart from his relaxed appearance and measured statements, the indications point to a break between the Slovenian and the formation that, from his signing, empowered Lipowitz and Pellizzari, and signed Remco. The last few races the former skier went on one side and his teammates on the other, at least when it comes to tactics."

I find it quite sad to see him playing the tourist like this and it also feels completely unnecessary if it is deliberate.

If it is deliberate because of the Vuelta he could have had a peak in March/April without jeopardizing his Vuelta bid. But with the way he is going now his final 1,5 season have a good chance of becoming a farce if his Vuelta bid somehow fails.

"Roglic bad teammate" just sells to the masses in similar ways that pizzagate did. They wanna believe bs so they'll click and spread bs.

Is he in decline or just lazy? You can't have it both ways! If he is just lazy maybe he can win the tour after all if he just trained, given his base level from sitting on the couch 😂
I think he lacks motivation. That implies that he trains less than what is needed and I am not sure about his recovery either.

I think he is more so coming to terms that he is not the strongest rider in his team anymore and it is affecting him. I would say his age matters, of course, but I dont feel like he is liking his own situation at the team at the moment. Not that he is "lazy".

I can see why Roglic might be a little frustrated recently. His first race he has Pellizzari with him who has already been racing for well over a month, who is in great form, going into the race with own ambitions. Roglic finds himself in an awkward spot when he is 3rd in GC, but his teammate is leading the race. Ends up finishing 5th overall.

Then he gets sent to two consecutive races with Lipo after that, who showed he was stronger in the last GT and coming into form as well. Roglic maybe not being in his best form and instead of racing for himself, or trying to get into form, gets forced into dom duties.

They have not given him much room or opportunity. Little assurance that they believe in him. Pitting him against, or with, these younger guys on the rise. It adds some unnecessary competition and distractions going in to each race. It adds pressure and is a blow to his confidence when things happen the way they do.

Or one can say, he hasnt showed why he should still get leadership over the younger riders. It becomes a fight on the road each race. It doesnt suit Roglic to have it that way within the team.

It is the second time he is experiencing this. First at Visma with Vinge surpassing him. Now both Pellizzari and Lipo seems to have surpassed him at RB.

Of course, the team has to manage all their riders and it makes sense to invest in the younger guys.

However, Roglic needs to be sole leader and feel like he has full support to perform imo. He hasnt gotten this for a few consecutive races now. Can he turn his season around and get sole leadership for Vuelta? We will see.

Also wondering if he will continue after the season and what would be suitable if he does.

And where tf is this coming from, do you train with him? After the tough Itzulia, he took a couple of days off, which is completely normal, because he's been racing since T-A. And he trained even during this mini family vacation, as you can see from his IG reel. You guys really don't know what else you could come up with

Where's the missing 40 %?

Other part of the team and some riders that performed better in the past.

As for Rogla, his approach, leadership ... Realistically this is the best to pull out of the current situation. RBH for example isn't keen to sacrifice Lipo, Giulio or Remco for Rogličes ambitions. So the question remains, on who are they prepared to sacrifice for that. And if the name comes up is that rider capable to support Rogla on the ultimate climb. Likely not. So for the time being i feel it makes sense to grow this team further, utilise the reserves, and when the team will be good enough that likely will put Rogla in more favourable position again. We'll see.

First of all, if he was serious about performing well in these three races there is no room for a family vacation right in the middle of the block. In general, I do not think he should be showing up to races, ever, where he is behind Pelizzari or Lipo in terms of form. These are facts. Now why it it so is something we can debate and I think it is because of lack of motivation because his team is a joke. More specifically I do not think it is an age related thing. But if he wants to change teams next year, he is not doing himself any favors by appearing in races and being a non factor. However, I am still rooting for him and I hope he will win the Vuelta.

Pretty sure Evenepoel took a vacation after UAE Tour?

It's pretty normal to take a short break after a racing block. There's like 3 weeks between the end of Itzulia and Romandie. It's not gonna kill you

It is not going to kill you but it is going to make you 20th in GC the next race. It is hard work to always be in shape...

Probably he'd be in 5th without throwing away minutes after doing work for the team, unless you want to argue he'd get dropped by 30 man groups on those 2 days

Probably not 3rd best, but still pretty decent.

It would lend some credence to the claim he didn't train for Romandie if he's getting a bit better now but both previous 2 days his pulls were stronger than it seemed IMO because after he pulled off the pace dropped and it's hard dropping a large amount of guys on a shallow gradient

3rd best for sure today! Go Rog. First mini stomp in a while.

From people saying Rog is a tourist, a disgrace or he should retire (Christophe Riblon and Chris Horner said a few choice things...) to we're back for Vuelta number 5.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle but without jinxing this since the race is over now I'll say this: Rog hasn't decked it since the Giro 11 months ago. It matters IMO. Seeing him on the drops today was pretty cool tbh so I'll take it as a sign of improvement (& the fact is he got better towards the end of the week which means the "not trained for Romandie" explanation holds).

A slow build up towards Vuelta. His final goal methinks.
But Pogacar will be there. Oh well. Not like he has a better chance in the giro against Jonas.
I do hope he pulls a Thomas. So he can have a nice ending.
Not that you need a good ending. What matters is the whole career.
Better one year too many, than one year too few.
