Some interesting tweets on the CBS twitter feed:

JUST IN: Man sought as possible suspect is WHITE MALE, wearing white baseball cap on backwards, gray hoodie and black jacket. (11 mins ago)

MORE: Source tells @CBSNews that possible suspect identified in Boston bombings through cell phone tower call logs http://CBSNews.com

https://twitter.com/CBSNews

These came after CBS reported that there had been no arrest, so could be that they've identified a suspect but haven't actually made an arrest. Could also be nothing.

On their news site now:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162...us-on-possible-suspect-in-surveillance-video/

Authorities investigating the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon have zeroed in on a man seen on surveillance video near the site of the attack.

At the site of what became the second explosion on Monday, surveillance video captured a white man placing a backpack on the ground while talking on a cell phone, sources told CBS News correspondent Bob Orr. The man was wearing a black jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt and a white or offwhite baseball cap on backwards. He is 6 feet tall or 6-foot-2 with a medium build.

Authorities are seeking the man either as a witness or as a possible suspect. At this point, federal officials say, no arrests have been made.

Video captured the man on the phone when the first explosion went off.

Investigators focused on the timeframe of that call and retrieved cell-phone information from that period to identify potential call users. Authorities then matched up the users' identities with pictures and video footage to zero in on a suspect.

Complete aside, couldn't help but notice the coincidence of the CBS correspondent's name - Bob(by) Orr.

"There is conflicting information as to whether someone has been arrested in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings. A federal law enforcement source told CNN's Fran Townsend that someone was arrested. But later, two senior administration officials and another federal official told Townsend that there had been a misunderstanding among officials and that no one has been arrested."

Sounds to me like CNN may have jumped the gun in the same way the NY Post did about the Saudi guy and now they're backtracking. I suppose that's the danger of trying to be first.

They don't have there ducks in a row. The sources cited are remain unnamed, but reporter often have good ones despite. Clearly something is happening given multiple news reports of great progress in the investigation earlier.

Sorry you have been offended. I take issue with the total politicization of this kind of horror.

That's what is wrong with me.

Bingo.

The thirst for finding a perpatrator is high. Patience is required.

This is not an area where the fourth estate does good work. Increasingly, the media properties are okay with getting a story wrong because they still get an audience. And as you point out, there's a number of fear mongers out there capitalizing on the event trying to use it as leverage to get a larger audience.

Patience is paramount right now.

Did I miss something? The only thing I heard him say that the only thing "white" was the baseball cap.

Dunno, think everything has to be taken with a grain of salt at the moment, but this is what it says in the CBS article: "At the site of what became the second explosion on Monday, surveillance video captured a white man placing a backpack on the ground while talking on a cell phone, sources told CBS News correspondent Bob Orr. also an aside, but kind of fascinating to see how prominent twitter has become in news delivery now.

speaking of that, a great tweet:
Charlie Brooker ‏@charltonbrooker 2m
CNN could relaunch as rolling '+1' channel where they explain what they reckon might happen precisely one hour from now.

Too true. As one news outlet reporter cited a source of the man being the opposite. Much confusion. I think we have to wait for the press conference.

Nothing amid the news flashes. Also killed; Krystle Campbell, 29, of Arlington, and Boston University graduate student Lingzu Lu, a native of Shenyang, China, who was in her 20s.

And thoughts to the many other victims that face numerous further surgeries in serious and critical condition.

Read somewhere that 5 people are still in critical, including a 5-year-old child. But don't quote me on that.

The new CNN line:

"A Boston law enforcement told CNN, "We got him," but won't clarify whether that means a suspect has been identified or arrested. Some federal sources said it was even too early to say investigators had identified the suspect, but several sources in Boston told CNN that they have a clear identification."

Guess the question is what they mean by "a clear identification".

whomever it is. I think the suspect or suspects are at the courthouse now. Watching ABC channel 5 out of Boston here at home. They say that the video that has caused all the developments is from department store Lord & Taylors.

Dunno about that, the FBI is pretty adamant that there hasn't been an arrest. My take is that they've id'ed a "suspect" from video and somewhere along the way that was misconstrued and inflated to "suspect in custody".

A Fox station in Boston is reporting that the courthouse has been evacuated because a bomb threat was called in. Just gets weirder and weirder.

CNN's really taking a beating for jumping the gun btw.

Considering that this the Explosion at Boston Marathon thread this might seem adrift, but we now have three major "news stories," for the general context to name them as to this post.

•Boston Marathon terror bombing attack: Suspect(s) ID'd by photo and video analysis. Origin of motive unknown. Date of attack, April 15, the federal tax deadline for tax year 2012.

•Ricin letters mailed to President Obama and Mississippi Sen. Rodger Wicker and other suspicious mail sent to other U.S. Senators: Arrest made: 45-year-old Paul Kenneth Curtis of Tupelo, Miss.: motive, possibly anger at government policy in general.

•Massive explosion at a "remote" fertilizer plant near Waco, Texas scene in 1993 of the Branch Davidian siege http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waco_siege News fog right now, but one reporter has stated as many 50-60 dead, 100s injured, some from toxic smoke. Reported form local reporter to Fox News; firefighters were at the plant prior the explosion in response to what is being describe as a smaller fire. One report stated that the fire was thought to be put out. The number of firefighters and other emergency responders to the first fire call is unknown. Unusual in my mind, in that firefighters now universally withdraw from a fire that is in danger of explosion that would threaten their lives. They would be kept at the scene to monitor a fire that had been contained or "put out." The earlier fire followed by the blast seem unusual from that aspect as reported.

The Waco siege in 1993 outraged many because of the initial assault on the Branch Davidian compound resulted in a gun battle between Federal ATF agents and armed compound members. Many thought the assault was premature, in light of little (from memory) or no negotiations were attempted and that children were in the compound although the Waco Branch Davidians were heavily armed. The Waco siege ended in an massive assault on April 19, 1993. 76 Branch Davidians died that day. We are now two days shy of the of the day marking 20th year of the assault. Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_McVeigh in this article is said to have been outraged by the Waco siege.

The is currently no direct evidence linking the events of the past few days, but it does alluded to some correlation of violent "far right" fanaticism near the 20th year mark of Waco.

The known and an attempted violence in Boston and with the Ricin letters are sickening. The explosion, now yesterday at the conclusion of this writing, disturbing and tradgic. Draw your own conclusions, but violence is never the answer. You have a voice. Use it. Passive, non-violent protests effected the elections of 2010. It is the good and just way to go about political change.

Don't forget the drop of Apple's stock price. The iPad is the tool of the libtards, and it is too much of a coincidence that the stock dropped so near the anniversary of the Waco assault. Strange forces are at work.

Pancakes! Pancakes! Pancakes!

I'm more than a little offended by your use of the 'N' word.

What 'N' word? Look Scott just keep your head in the sand and we'll tell you what happened when everything's come to pass, which I reckon should be sometime just inside the year 2050.

So if we're still around and gravity hasn't deformed your head, we can sit down together and have a beer over it (naturally I'll let you choose which kind, since I know you love having choices). Va bene?

LOL :D

in all seriousness, sometimes coincidences are just that; unplanned confluences of events. but if you think about all of the violence that happens everyday in the US and all of the infrastructure that has been depleted by the economy and political forces that think any regulation is too much, it really isn't much of a coincidence that three different headline grabbing events should happen so closely together.
