Favourite Team Bikes of all time

Parera said:
Anyone care to share pics of their all time favorite team bike? Don't care if it's a local frame builder and their "team" or some old retro thing I'm too young to have ever seen/care about, I just like looking at pictures of sexy bikes.

My favorite "team" bike:

Only thing I don't like about it is the slightly sloping top tube. But Mike will do whatever you want with your frame, so it's a stupid complaint. He would even probably paint a pair of flaming breasts on it if you asked nicely. But yeah, whenever I ride with any of the DeSalvo guys, I get a little jealous.

This originally came from the 2011 Bike poll thread, thought it would be a good thread by itself (RDV obviously thought so too :D)

I'll add my 2c and say that the Fly V Parlees from a few years ago (2009?) is my favorite team bike of recent years. Even if it did have SRAM red ;)

What are your thoughts?

For pure appearance, I prefer the look of older bikes.

Specific 'looks' on new bikes that I don't like are:
1) deep aero rims, they look clunky to me.
2) threadless stems, graceless with a big knob on top.
3) brifters, too 'busy' looking.

Yes, the new bikes are faster, but I don't think they are more attractive visually.

If you can get past the team notoriety (Gewiss), I lusted after this bike as a young teen more than anything I have ever lusted after.

I thought the Gios Torino might have been your fav of all time! :D

Ha, right! Really though, almost pulled the trigger on the re-release of the Gios Super Record several years ago, but their top tubes are just to short for me. The only blue bike I'd ever ride, I just might have one of my need to paint/repaint frames done in Gios blue.

+1

IMHO, that bike and it's rider represent a highwater mark in the history of cycling. Legendary bike, infamous rider. Hard to beat a combo like that!

Get one custom made. You know you want to :D I'd love one along with a custom Tommasini Mach and a C59

Mapei Colnago C40

Here's the legendary Andrea Tafi rocking his

And one for ACF - Cadel being a good gregario for Il Grillo, both on C40s :D

And finally numero uno, Michele Bartoli styling a CT1 carbon titanium frame Ernesto made specially for him (not strictly a team bike, but too nice not to include)

Millar has reviewed a Colnago a while back, a C40

you'd better believe the hype behind this particular colnago, becuase it looks and feels like it's all true. the ultimate accolade comes from every pro who rides or has ridden one. would they recommend it? yes! would they buy one with their own money? yes! everything about ernesto colnago's finest frame convinces you that it can't get any better. the paint is shinier and deeper, the detailing exquisite, the standard of construction impeccable, the finishing touches are superb, and it lasts too. robbie mcewan (at that time with rabobank) brought along last year's bike as well and it wasn't the usual sorry collection of scrapes and bangs of a normal year old pro racer. the paint was just as good as the new one and it feslt just as tight to ride.

...don't think you need to go custom because if someone can set themselves up properly on a Colnago they certainly should be able to set themselves up properly on a Gios....

...if fact, in terms of effective Top Tube length, the Top Tube on the Gios is a hair longer than the Colnago...

...appears that an opportunity to own a dream may have been mistakenly passed over ( and given the recent sad history of Gios, may never be encountered again )...

...and here is my fave team bike in action...

You're right, the TT is pretty close to my Master and could have probably made it work, but the ride quality of the Gios wasn't anywhere near my Colnago, to be honest few steel bike are. Couldn't justify getting a frame just based on what my all time favorite racer rode. I also already have a pretty ridiculous time piece in the form of a 1974 Masi GC with a twin plate crown fork.

What's the recent sad history? I looked for headlines in google about Gios but couldn't find anything.

I thought you'd have one for sunday morning rides. C'mon be a true fan, where you'd still have one even if it doesn't fit or it hurts to use it.:D

what sad news. Not seeing anything in their blog!!!

Well, Sunday is usually bmx dirt jump day at this household. But I do own a Brooklyn jersey so old i had to cut the sleeves off, and a bunch of hats. When I get my CX bike repainted it will be soaked in glorious Gios blue all ready for the Springtime gravel races. That should suffice.

I loved that Colnago too, but it missed out on my top spot as it is sporting shi*ano. :(

To be fair tho, Campagnolo only released Ergopower in 1992 about two years after that photo was taken, so at that stage STI was the only integrated system available.

While we're on bikepron, here's a photo of Tafi's saddle from that C40 - I challenge you to find a better looking seat ...
