He needed a few days to adapt to his first TdF, but in all, Gall‘s 2023 TdF was nothing less than a sensation.

I honestly think, if there are any possibilities, that he‘ll leave Ag2R as soon as possible. Probably for Ineos, who probably will be willing to pay any sum of money.

I know his current contract runs until end of 2025…

Maybe we see Gall and Roglic at Ineos, next year…

Sorry, but is this based on anything but wishful thinking?

I don’t know man, Gall did great, but his tt is a problem that will leave INEOS more than a little hesitant.

I think Gall just made himself captain on one of the richer teams that has been struggling to find a good project to spend their budget on. If he goes to INEOS he’ll be their new Uran, Landa or Carapaz and at most be allowed to go for the Giro or Vuelta but also have to work for the leader.

If he stays put he can pretty much design his own race schedule and be the protected rider in the team.

Let's see what happens when he isn't allowed to go in the break first.

Gall's top level is higher than O'Connor could ever dream off. 2nd fastest on Loze and 3rd best on Platzerwazel, essentially best of the rest the two last mountain stages. Thats a superb top-level and therefore an actual threat for a podium in Tour de France without breakaway shenanigans at some point depending on the route and opposition.

Not disagreeing, more a comment on O’Conner subsequent GTs than anything else. Great one-week rider, but three is just too much for him.

The pressure was off Gall. Totally different being a pre race leader of the team and not able to get into breaks. One of the performances of the race and he has a bright future but it's early days re his future as a potential podium threat.

Illness and falls haven't helped him but I have my doubts about O'Connor ever reaching Hindley's level or winning a grand tour. Podium possibly but the TT is still an issue.

Given his weight and the watts he can produce uphill - any reason he could not improve his TT by quite a bit ? When he does some proper training and gets a good setup.
No in theory he should be capable of improving quite a bit in that department. I think INEOS would dwell more on the fact that he hasn’t already done so.
Which is super harsh he is only 25.

He could still be a mediocre TTer if his CDA is high and/or if he can't produce a comparable power output in the TT position for biomechanical reasons.

Also 6.8 W/kg on the last climb of 20 stage. That's Pogacar's level in mountains.

Gall just won Austrians male sportsperson of the year award. Not entirely sure I think he deserves it but it shows how outstanding of an achievement his Tour was for an Austrian cyclist.
First cyclist to win it since Totschnig in 2005, right?

I was quite surprised to hear about it. I would have thought that surely they have some guys out there dominating in winter sports or something that would take the award over maybe 20th or 30th best rider in the peloton this season (and who didn't take any particularly big wins). But apparently cycling means a bit more in Austria than I thought.

No Hirscher anymore, Kraft had an average season, Thiem is bad now, Alaba did not win the Champions League this year, and Lamparter did win the Nordic Combined World Cup but only because Riiber had to pause.

There was a bit of discussion if Jakob Schubert should have won - 2nd climber to climb a 9C, World Champion, winner of the World Cup. But I guess there it was the Tour de France being the bigger event than any climbing event.

Oh, yeah, and Sepp Straka’s Ryder Cup title (first Austrian) came after the voting deadline.

Is there any word on if he and his team are planning to bring his TT up in the hopes of being a more serious GC contender?

Struggled the first few days in Paris-Nice, but came out strong on the final 2 days, after being already strong in the UAE-Tour (before getting lost in the crosswinds).
Next race is Catalunya. Top 5 on gc is possible and with Vingegaard being a question mark after his crash, Roglic not being good in his first race of the season and Ayuso being Ayuso a top 3 on gc is also possible.
