Gaviria not happy with Teklehaimanot. Berating him and not letting him go in the break.

The commentators suggested it is because he is a danger to the points jersey. This is complete rubbish. Mathematically, Teklehaimanot could take every intermediate sprint and he would not get close to the points jersey AND secondly Teklehaimanot is going for the intermediate sprints competition and the fuga Pinarello competition (two completely separate competitions to the points jersey).

It looked like nasty and personal.

Yeah, I don't quite know what that was all about. Should let that one go..

Bushman: Indeed - we have not seen it on this level really before, maybe he can pull something off similar to what Sagan did in Gap, altho this is IMO a more demanding stage.

In the Colombian transmission they said that Gav and Teklehaimanot have had a argue early in the Giro, not telling the particulars but, yes, probably is personal.

I wish that there was a forum like this in 1999. Poor Casper did not get the hype he deserved.
Just getting around to asking but Jimmy Casper? Always liked him. Well liked is a strong word (he was a bit prickly IIRC), but there was an irrational confidence about him that I found fun.

Got to admit, that looks pretty nice. Barring accidents he should have the jersey in the bag.

And on that topic: The ciclamino jersey looks infinitely better than the awful red one. I'm normally not a fan of the blue one having taken over for the green climber's jersey, but I have to say that it looks awesome on Landa when combined with the Sky kit.

Safely finished the job. What a GT-debut it was. When was the last time someone won the classification in his first try? Guidi in 96, right?

Greg Van Avermaet did it in Vuelta 2008.

Gaviria definitely someone that can win all three points jerseys.

Cav got lucky because nowadays it's a lot harder for a pure sprinter to win the points jersey in the Vuelta. Sagan should also make it a goal one of these days.

Gaviria lived up greatly to the hype. He's now the sprinter to beat. He's got a brilliant future ahead of him....

tomorrow it should be the Gaviria show (vs Ewan vs Viviani?) It will be just as entertaining.

Actually Orica have multiple options for the sprint day - Ewan,Kluge and Edmondson can win points.

In theory this should be a better strategy, one man can only do so many sprints before he tires.

Hmmm hopefully not the full Vuelta, he's still very young and two full GT's could tire him out for next year (and the WC's this year which should suit him).

Obviously, as every sprinter targeting the WC, he will not finish Vuelta. It's just a training ride for many and only very few riders and fans care about this race anyway so it does not matter.

London and other 1-day courses, no Vuelta.
Fantastic news for the CQ game :D But his palmares would probably look better with four Vuelta stages.

Bummer...I wish he'd at least do part of the Vuelta. He needs to start accruing GT stage wins.

He really doesn't. Rode his first GT, won 4 stages. He's 22 years old. How many GT stages did Cav have at the age of 22? And Gaviria is capable of much more than just sprinting.

His boss said that he can't be a big rider in an international sport if he doesn't speak English!

He probably meant "endorsements"...

Cav is getting old, so is Greipel, le beau Marcel has a few years left but other than that, Gaviria has a huge upside, he's set to dominate sprints for the years to come. His only possible rival, IMO, could be Demare.
