Funny, I can't remember a single save by Romero and I didn't take my eyes of the game that much.
Probably always at the wrong time.

70 minutes and still no substitutions from Diego? It's a long tournament Deigo, the bench is your friend.

So who would you take off?
It's the first game, maybe the most important of the Group stages.

Oh he does substitute.
But what a strange one. Maxi for Veron.

Veron off for Maxi Rodriguez.

:D

Actually I would have made a forward substitution, Higuain off for Milito.

Yeah that would have been allright.
Or maybe someone for Di Maria.
Actually I also can't remember having seen Di Maria a lot in this game.

And there we go, Milito for Higuain.

This goalie for Nigeria aint going to be in Tel-Aviv much longer if he continues to perform like this.

He's the man of the match for sure.

Arg! Doesn't look like messi is supposed to score today. I've picked argentina to win the tournament, by the way..all in all, they have been good today, and will probably get better.

Here we go. England will crush the US. Onyewu (has barely played due to injury for the last few months) will get flayed by the Roonster.

Hmmm... Why didn't Altidore have his hand over his heart? Looked a bit weird with everyone else doing it, save him.

Having just finished watching Argentina-Nigeria on delay......wow Lagerback is an idiot.

"We must play 4-4-2 no matter how horribly unsuited our players are to it and no matter how much it may be the worst possible choice against this particular opponent. Nothing else exists".

If he had a brain, Obasi could've made use of the fact that Jonas is in no way, shape or form a fullback and was constantly out of position.

What's with Maradona? While most managers spent their friendlies experimenting with players and systems, only Maradona did the smart thing, using the friendlies to cement his starting eleven and train his team in the system to use....and come the first game he changes it around.

Argentina were one of the few teams that came here with a well drilled plan, and Diego just chucks it out the window at the last minute. WHY???

I think I heard that maradona has tried something like a hundred different players since he took over the team. Can that be correct!? I'm not sure he knows what he's doing, but I do think Argentina will win this year.

Never knew you were Scottish :p

I was actually born in england, but its a long complicated story.. Mother is scouse but the rest of family is all either irish or scottish prior to mother in some way or other. Grandparents were still up in scotland till i was about 18. Ive lived in Cornwall or DEvon (and wales breifly) for the last 30 years so ive always been raised a celt. Back in the seventies and early eighties when i started following football and liverpool, the likes of hansen, dalglishl souness etc all played for scotland (and remembering liverpool was originally almost entirely scottish players) so i naturally became with the family links a scotland fan and have been for nearly 30 years. Sadly liverpooll have only had one scottish player in the last 20 years :( Dominic Matteo

Im a Celt first and foremost, and british after that. Im english in birthplace alone.

Well this is interesting. The Dutch commentator just said that the Brazilian ref earlier this year served a 6 week suspension from competition for "corruption"

But now he's here?!?

the referee? corruption, meaning taking cash to fix a match? that's strange. I know it happens, but I shouldn't think they'd want him to be here, if he had recently been suspended?

Don't know what the corruption was, just repeating what the commentator said
