Yay. Good result, shame about the penalty.

All those defensive lapses which we got away with until the 94th minute will cost us though. Brazil will slaughter us. Maicon will eat our left flank for breakfast and have Stekelenburg for tea.

All we can hope now is that Chile can pull off a miracle, but I doubt it.

you seem to forget that brazil scraped past the worst team in this world cup 2-1. when brazil played north korea we all thought the koreans were a good side. So they can play badly too. Brazil will (if they win today) be favourites, but only just.

Have we seen a different game? To me, Van Bommel was man of the match. Gio was not too bad, Van der Wiel was awful.

I think we must have. Van bommel was very average I thought. Lost possession too much for my liking. Van Der Wiel was another terrible one.

Once again, it's not really clear whether Chile makes them look good, or if Brazil would be able to create any chances if Chile's defense wasn't as abysmal.

But yes, the Brazil defense is obviously fantastic. Holland have got their work cut out for them.

Like I said. This Brazil side will crush everyone, and will do so on friday with the Netherlands. It'll be Panic at the Port for the Dutch, no doubt about it.

chille could have had a good tournament had that moron goalkeeper not went for a ball 25 yards out giving spain the lead. Instead they had to face Brazil.

I expect Brazil to beat Holland. But even if Brazil play at their best, you just never know with these refs.

Really hope Holland win.

Also, hope for Portugal to win tomorrow just to knock Villa out of top scorer contention. He seems like Higuain's biggest rival apart from maybe Luis Fabiano.

you put money on higuain being top scorer? when was it before or after the hattrick. If before those must have been good ods since he wasnt a favourite for it.

Blatter will win. The rest loses. Especially the average Joe who buys the game-shirts and tickets etc. etc...

Psycho-Blatter and his friends only aim is to milk more money out of that farce called Fifa-Worldcup: 50% of the games are decided because of wrong calls by the officials. It could be so easy if Instant Replay was used. But no, that would make it more difficult to manipulate games for the corrupt "leaders" of Fifa. I tought the UCI is bad, but the Fifa is the king of corrupt manipulated sports organizations. Even fans get jailed who dress the wrong shirt (see Holland Girls), questions by journalists are not answered, taxes not payed, countrys extorted etc. etc...

Your sense of fatalism is becoming a bit too much, TBH. Brazil has just played its first decent game of the tournament. They're the favourites to win on Friday, sure, but Oranje aren't a bunch of cake bakers, to use a Dutchism.

Shhhhh.... Its a tactic.

I've always cheered for us to win, so I'm pulling the ol' switcheroo. Scream from the top of your lungs about how they'll lose and then smile when victory comes. It's worked so far :p

Perhaps with Elia and Robben they can try and pin the Brazilian backs down so as to divert attention from and relieve our sandcastle defense.

According to a writer for a Brazilian newspaper:

A Holanda tem qualidade técnica – está 100% nesta Copa -, mas tem buracos na defesa que podem ser explorado pelos laterais brasileiros

Furthermore, ball loss on the midfield is deadly, especially from bad lateral passes. Brazil's counter is fast like lightning and their efficiency is remarkable. 2 mistakes can result in an unsurmountable 2-0 deficit.

Offensively, sand-in-the-clockwork orange shouldn't want to try to penetrate the heart of the defense, because there are just too many people, it's cluttered. It's also difficult to get something done in the air, with Lucio in the center and the dutch don't seem to be tall enough .

Fast paced, one touch football is what we need. (Above all because it's visibly aesthetic ;)

What is the word for 'temporizeren' in english?

I quite agree with what René van der Gijp said about the Brazilians: top notch defense, top notch attack, but their midfield has little movement, and is largely left out of the game, certainly when Ramires is suspended.

Their real danger man is Maicon. I hope Van Marwijk fields Elia to keep him busy, rather than Kuyt who's going to try to defend him rather than outfox him. Playing Van der Vaart would be an utter mistake, IMO, because Maicon will have the entire right wing for himself.

And I guess the word you're looking for is "to temporize" ;)

The refs will only need to act if Brazil does not play at their best. I'd like Nederland to beat Brazil just to maximise FIFA's displeasure.

I agree the ball loss coming back to hurt us. Against the Slovaks we couldn't hold possession whatsoever at times (this is where I thought van bommel was terrible yesterday, gave possession away way too much). Against Brazil we will get punished.

And yes, the way to beat brazil will be moving the ball quickly, one touch football... opening the game up, and allowing robben space to run at the goal.

VdV wont start I don't think.
I'd prefer RvP coming from wide, and like suggested Huntelaar up front. But that would be a little harsh on the hard working Kuyt.
Elia will have to settle with impact player/substitute I think.

I have to say, Japan is growing on me. After the Cameroon game I thought they were just another defensive anti-football team. But they're actually quite the plucky team, and on the balance of things their goals so far have probably been the prettiest of the tournament on average. Also their coach is obviously the winner of the "most likely to secretly be a Bond villain" contest among the 32 national bosses.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... I'd send both Japan and Paraguay out and declare the Portugal-Spain a quarter-final match.

if we eliminated a team every time they took part in a boring match at this world cup, we would be left with chille argentina, the united states and possibly korea dpr (since they conceded so many goals, and played well v brazil)

and it probably says something that 3 of those 4 teams are already out.

The group phase had too many boring matches, but the round of the last 16 hasn't got anyone as bad as this Paraguay-Japan.
