Once players fall theatrically, and its usually pretty easy to spot (hint: in this case both legs are in the same position even though he pretends to fall because of a tackle on only one leg...), no penalty should be given even though it might've been one. No other way to stop the single most irritating thing in football.

And you're right, I can't be happy with a win like this, feels like cheating.

It was a cheaply given penalty, but of course he should already have gotten one in the first half, so justice was done. And it was a deserved win, the Mexican coach made tactical error after tactical error when they were one goal up.

I haven't jumped and cheered at a goal more in the last 5 years (before that I was more into football) than at the Van Persie header versus Spain, I embarrassed myself. Granted, part of that was due to the quality rather than the nationality, but I am not anti Netherlands although I judge them a bit more critically than the average country probably (though I think that's justified based on past results and player quality).

About earlier penalty. Could be, but that's none of Robbens business, he should play his own game. I can't even begin to express how uninterested I am in tit for tat reasoning like that.

Wow. I thought NL deserved the win, thus they must have been in the 16m box once in a while.

BTW, clear hand-play (not shoulder or back or "protective hand" or something) by GRE... and no penalty kick is given. Poor refs.

Edit: Oh my... poor CRC, now they get RC. Either the ref has no eyes (on the hand-play) and no tact (he knew a 2nd yellow would lead to 10 vs 11), or CRC is on the wrong end of a fix...

How is it an undeserved win? Mexico just stopped playing after the 1-0. It's their own tactical failing that cost them the win. A match is 90 minutes (+extra time) not 60

Holland had more chances, possession, dangerous attacks, everything in total..
And the penalty was a penalty.. just like the 1st half foul should have been a penalty.

The referees already gave 2 undeserved penalties against the Netherlands against Spain and Australia. It was bound to happen the other way around

Myth.

Besides fixes and whatever goes on behind curtains, there should be at least 1* underdog winning a WC in its long history.
But there isn´t. Why? Because "big" soccer countries get all the small advantages by the refs (less reds, less penalty kicks against compared to chances, less obvious fouls yellow carded, etc.). This small advantages add up step by step, inch by inch... and lead to the same old countries meeting in the finals.

* Let´s say there are at least 5 true underdogs in each WC reaching the knock-out/2nd round stage, with a approx. 30% win chance, this adds up to 0.3x0.3x0.3 = 2.7% chance for each underdog to reach the final. That´s 13.5% for all five countries. That´s a true underdog reaching at least the final every 9 to 10 world cups. Yet it never happend, but should have twice.
Ok, small sample size case. But still, we are overdue for a team like Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Algeria or like that at least reaching the final.

they allowed netherlands to play deep into their half. That's not exactly a smart thing to do. They were better off with early pressing, like in the first 50 minutes.

Madness is a little hard. But I would have liked NL to win on pure strength than on pure luck (the mildest word I can find for the given penalty ).

Now: Cheering for CRC. Complete 180 turn, b/c of the ref. Only problem; there is no hope for CRC now. Only miracles can help now.

The Netherlands have had their bad moments, but right now, at the world cup they are performing phenomenally, have a very strong squad and are going to be playing the weakest team left in the competition.

Only bad news for them would be if its Greece and they go full defense mode like say Iran did against Argentina.
