I guess you've got a point there. :p

He wasn't diving too bad yesterday though :D

Also, he does play the type of aggressive entertaining football a lot of people want to see.....

Why anybody was cheering for the Costa Rica, except people from Costa Rica, is beyond me. The Netherlands attacked for 120 minutes and got dozens of chances, whereas Costa Rica played appalling football and got like 1 chance in 120 minutes. Also, the Netherlands had stupid bad luck with a bunch of balls that went against the bar.

Hopefully Netherlands - Argentina will be a more exciting match. The Netherlands might have some struggles with being fully recuperated for the match, but Argentina will probably miss Di Maria.

I thought The Netherlands played alright, would've liked to see a bit more passing around at pace but at least they had a positive mindset. Robben was annoying again to be honest.

He played a beastly good match though. Not any player on the WC is as good as Robben right now. That was ET

completely disagree.
a true joy to watch him take on defenders at pace.
only guy who can do that other than robben would be messi.
messi is a bit more complete (e.g. has a stronger right foot), i think, than robben.
but the last two years at bayern and including this tournament robben has been friggin brilliant, also very intelligent in his passing.
And what is only rarely mentioned is that he has one of the best throw-ins of the game. Not ****tin you.

the diving? come on. yesterday just showed again why he's learned to dive. every run he makes ends with a friggin foul. not funny. and the refs don't give him enough protection.

agreed.
blind and wijnaldum are particularly annoying with riskless backpasses all the time.
when they're in posession, they're almost always looking back at their own defenders and goalie, instead of playing more vertically.

I'm with you on Robbens qualities, but that's why I dislike his diving even more. I'd love to be a fan of him (I used to be, I used to be PSV supporter), that's why the diving is so annoying.

Problem is that if I say I dislike Robbens habits I get called into question because "he is a great player", in real life more than on here.

Yea, I dislike Cristiano Ronaldo, Mario Balotelli, Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi too.

I remember getting into a lengthy disagreement with Amsterhammer on here because I found Barcelona to be very boring when they were stomping people 3-0, 4-0, 5-0 every week, whereas Amsterhammer thought this was amazingly great to watch because they played really good football. I wanted entertainment through tension and competition, they wanted entertainment through skills and quality. Neither is wrong, they're just not often compatible.

And so it is with Robben. Some people look past his many faults because he is a great player, and that he is a great player surely can't be denied. But I really, really can't look past those.

I remember Boulting had some podcast on cycling i listened to cos i was bored and he said that he prefers cyclists because they are more respectful and he gave an example of how he once went to interview Robben or something, had to wait 10 hours or something because footballers feel so entitled, got 2 minutes interview, one of the questions was - are you staying at Bayern Munich, Robben replied - I don't know, then a couple of hours after the interview they heard on the Radio that Robben had signed a new contract:eek:

I don't get it why Robben get so much hate for diving he surely dives less than Neymar or CR,plus is way more fun to watch him flying like a rocket past clueless defenders.Actually from the current top players i finding him the most spectacular, still people always talk about Messi,CR,Neymar when this guy is in no way inferior to them.At this WC he was at the top of his game,a joy to watch i hope he'll show his worth in the game against Argentina.

1.Robben 2.Neymar 3.Messi 4.CR, in this world cup imo,leo can improve it,but he played not very impressive except of nigeria match.

hint: of course there would be ton of other players among them,I rated only those four

this.
yesterday i saw three costaricans fall down in the box like swallows.
nobody said nothing.
on average i don't think robben dives more often than other forwards.
robben just gets in a position much more often, gets tackled much more often, etc.
admittedly, robben's diving technique is not as great as that of others (he flies a bit too obvious with the hands in the air), but that's something else.

plus, alround, robben is 100% sportsman.
no rude tackles, not asking for cards.
nothing.
hell he even apologized for diving against mexico.

Poor you.

Robben can be annoying, a pr.ck, egocentric, and he dives like his final hour has come. But what are we to think of the defenders who try to cut his legs in half? It's insane that somehow Robben has become the bad guy, mainly in American media who don't know sh.t about the sport.

Are you subtly implying those who criticize Robben don't know anything about football?

Robben is fouled more often than the average player, but I don't think the stats are anything extraordinary. Some players manage not to dive like crazy despite being fouled constantly.

I'll hazard a guess and say that Robben is one of the players with the most fouls committed against in international football. Four (!) Costa Rican players got yellow carded yesterday for fouls against him, I don't think you see that too often with one single player. A Mexican even broke his leg while taking down Robben in the penalty area (but of course, he didn't get a penalty, because Robben is such a diver).

And what are the American media, who seem to just have discovered the sport, most annoyed about? Right.

So what's your point? You thought the Dutch didn't play attacking football last night?

Costa Rica just parked the bus. We've seen time and again in this tournament that no matter who you are, that's very difficult to get through.

No, that it's crazy to expect Costa Rica to play very offensive football against the Netherlands. I think their entire squad was worth the least on the transfer market of all teams at this WC. Plus, they also noticed how the other semi finalists got through. And how Chelsea won a CL title.

Can somebody translate this in proper English?

BRASIL, DECIME QUE SE SIENTE

TENER EN CASA A TU PAPA

SEGURO QUE AUNQUE PASEN LOS AÑOS

NUNCA LO VAMOS A OLVIDAR

QUE EL DIEGO TE GAMBETEO

EL CANI TE VACUNO

ESTAS LLORANDO DESDE ITALIA HASTA HOY

A MESSI LO VAS A VER

LA COPA NOS VA A TRAER

MARADONA ES MAS GRANDE QUE PELE

The Dutch got criticized for being too defensive... I wonder what people will think of the Costa Ricans. Jesus H. Christ, what an ultra defensive team, Greece 2.0.

Not quite a genius substitution by Van Gaal, Tim Krul is a known penalty killer, whereas Cillessen hasn't stopped one single penalty, ever (!).

When I saw the substituiion I thought, what, I couldn't remember Krul saving any penalties for the Toon, (apparently he has saved 2 out of 20), but it seems that Van Gaal's genius was that he gave Krul the nod to study their penalty takers prior to the game and Cillessen had concentrated on the game itself, Mike Ashley will be happy if he can sell Krul for more cash:mad:

Yes, those stats aren't very impressive, yet somehow I heard way before this World Cup that Krul was a penalty killer... maybe from the youth ranks or something.
