flat bar commuting - Alfine or 105 stylee?

hey guys, i'm upgrading from my clunky MTB to a flat bar commuter for my 35km round trip commute. i have looked at a few brands using the Alfine (8sp) hub set-up on bikes ranging from AUD1,300 to AUD2,000, compared to ones with regular 105 road gearing on 2 chainrings form 1,500 to 2,000. anybody know what kind of range i will get out of the Alfine? anybody have thoughts on the Felt range vs Fuji Absolute 1.0 vs Giant CRX One or Two vs Azzurri Opal? cheers, Bish
