If Wiggins win this year, he will work for Froom next year???? Day dreaming, as long as it is the tour, Froom has to work for Wiggins at least in the beginning of the race.

You see next year promises to have very little TT's and many mountains ( more than usual ;) )

but still you have to work for defending Champion until Wiggins can't hold on, but by that time it is probably already too late to change the plan so Vuelta all over again

Wiggins is in top shape and the roles are clearly defined so he will incoherently win and Froome will incoherently finish on the podium this time around.

Incoherently if the roles are clearly defined how can Froome slow the pace when he is destroying the bunch?;)

Like the author of the thread thinks "Froome is Sky's best chance to win Le Tour"

No, look at 1997, Riis faltered and Ullrich took over. The atmosphere at Sky really seems great, even after the Vuelta last year there were no ill feelings voiced.

From http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/fro...n-yellow-still-the-priority-at-tour-de-france

Probably thanks to a humble Froome not sure about Wiggo:rolleyes:

The roles are clearly defined in the sense that Froome will go up at a pace comfortable for Wiggins and will not ride his own race apart from the finishes where he is more explosive.

For now.. we will see come Stage 9 and 11 what changes but if you are banged on the head to much then you eventually give in;)

Could we see a version of Hinault vs. LeMond if Wiggins gets in difficulty?
The problem is Evans

I think Bradley will be relieved that a) Froome is on the same team and b) has already lost ~1.40.

But the catch is Froome may very well be climbing better than Wiggins

unfortunately the tour will finished on Monday night WEGGING will win for sure by 3 minutes then will extend by 3 minutes at the last time trial.

Good day for Sky and it quashed all doubts about the frailties which seemed apparent in the first 6 road stages...

But I am disappointed with the interviews after; Froome seemed resigned to working for Wiggins when it was clear he was the stronger of the two and I seem to be having Deja vu of last year's Vuelta. Also Wiggins seemed very abrupt in his dismissal of Froome's chances and seemed arrogant in saying that Froome would be working for him, I guess it is disheartening seeing a fellow team mate threaten your dream when you have seemed to overcome all the other obstacles but i was still a tad disappointed and I hope Yates can sort this out pronto because Evans is still in with a very big chance to win not to mention the possibility of Nibali and a couple of others possibly recovering and Sky need their best man to lead, especially considering the tactics they employ, whoever that is.

Froome may very well prove to be the stronger climber but I doubt he's strong enough to cancel out this particular tours time trials. If this tour had less TT's then it might get dicey at sky

So says Stephen Roche:

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/froome-is-skys-best-chance-to-win-the-tour-de-france-roche-says

Surprised this hasn't cropped up yet in the forum as it seems a bit controversial to me. Is Roche simply mischief making here or is he correct with his assertion that:

1) Froome is really Sky's best chance over Wiggins;

2) Targetting the Tour on 2 fronts is not achievable.

His logic on 1) doesn't compute with me as it will be each man on his own over 100K of ITT and no way Froome will sneak in under the radar on any climb after his perfomance in the Vuelta.

I'm sure more knowledgeable posters can provide a deeper analysis:)
let me go on record agreement

he actually beat Wiggo in the chrono at the Vuelta last year

He has been on top form just once for a TT and that was at the Vuelta where he beat Wiggins and everybody else asides for Martin. He seems to be in even better form currently...

Well if he wants to turn the table upside down he has to put a minute into Wiggo on the first ITT, it's up to him.

That is not really possible but beating Wiggins is possible and it will be enough for the alarm bells in the Sky team car to start ringing.. it is up to Sky to act promptly but the fact is that Wiggins from his interview yesterday seemed to rule out any chance of Froome becoming leader and I think if such a thing does occur then things could get ugly in the Sky camp

Absolutely. If Froome has the form he has the chance to make it pay in both the T.T's. Pity he's already lost time in the first week.

It could get very interesting if Wiggins loses some time in the third week. If Wiggins gets dropped on a mountain, will Sky call back Froome, very doubtful. It will be up to Rogers and Porte I would think.

Wiggins is the poster boy of the entire Sky project and Sky have shown themselves willing to jeopardise a GT win if it means preserving Wiggins' chances of a shot at victory. I can only assume they consider Froome as Kenyan first or that Wiggins has something contractual that stipulates he must be team leader (I don’t know if there is any precedent for that in cycling).

If the race was broken up by a Contador or Andy Schleck then Sky would have a major headache about whether to let Froome go with them. But already every attacking climber is arguably already out of GC podium contention, even before the ITT - so Sky doesn't have to respond to them. I think Froome will beat Wiggins over the two ITTs, but not enough to make Sky consider allowing Froome to do his own thing in the mountains.
