Bike-motors aren't a conspiracy theory, they exist and they work, which is why it's necessary to check to make sure nobody is using them in pro racing.

The conspiracy theory is that the UCI tolerates the use of motors, and I don't believe in that.

Slightly disagree...I didn’t say motors in bikes are a conspiracy, anyone can buy one. The conspiracy theory is that they’re being used to win races at the very highest level in the sport, leading to the UCI spending time and money carrying out regular checks despite not one single motor ever having been found in the history of any WT races.

The response is not proportionate to the risk/likelihood...it’s a reaction to rumour spread online by a very vocal minority

As professionals go he was one of the few that was clean. 4 years as a pro is half a career for a clean rider. Winning is not what you should judge a rider by and is totally irrelevant to the idea that teams need doctors.

That you want to denegrate Bassons professional career says a lot about your mindeset.

It isn't denigrating Bassons, it is the presentation of facts. If you want to dispute the fact that he only had a 4 year career, two decades ago, with only one win, please be my guest.

So what does it say about my mindset? Actually, don't answer that. You have already crossed the line into personal remarks.

Of course not, I wasn’t suggesting that checks aren’t warranted at all. But the current testing frenzy is a direct response to online rumour imho.

We’re reaching the point in recent GT’s where checks for motors are given the same priority as doping checks. We have a history of hundreds, if not thousands of proven doping cases, but not one of motors at WT level.

My initial comment was making the point about the power of social media to influence policy and thinking. Evidence is no longer necessary

You could just as well say that the criterion for a positive test—which allows several if not dozens of false negatives—is not proportionate to the likelihood of a false positive if the criterion is lowered a little. If it’s better to lower the risk of a false positive at the expense of increasing false negatives, isn’t it better to lower the risk of motor use at the expense of setting up the technology? If there were no testing, if any rider was assured he could use a motor and get away with it, do you seriously believe none would?

Kerrison:

“Guilty or innocent, it shouldn’t take this long to resolve. If he’s found to be innocent it just shouldn’t take the months and months that it has done to resolve the situation.”

http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/racing/team-sky-coach-tim-kerrison-defends-chris-froome-hits-critics-383846#j5c1EqP7sROJit0U.99

Gee, Tim, why do you think the case is taking so long, then? Whose fault is it when Froome’s team—after refusing to accept a ban from UCI, which would have finished the case in five months—burdens Haas with hundreds of pages of documents because it has no simple explanation for the AAF?

femke and other low level athletes were caught..............the rumour is that world tour riders are

using motors and getting away with it...............

how could pro riders get away with it with knowledge of motors /eyes of world watching?

how could motor use be unknown to other riders? either riders would talk or they would ALL start using

motors...

the idea that pro cycling could not bear finding motors seems stooopid....a zillion PED scandals

and pro cycling trundles on

pro cycling could even carry on if UCI collusion was uncovered....with new personnel at UCI

Mark L

Exactly...the 3 examples quoted; Femke and 2 amateurs. Literally no one except their competitors and a few die hard fans with camera phones we’re watching. Literally nobody outside of a very small circle of people cared.

Yet still their use of a motor was so obvious to their competitors that they were caught.

Contrast this with the WT, cameras on every angle, social media vultures circling to feed on every tenuous scrap that could possibly be linked to a motor.

Yes the 3 examples oft quoted are great evidence of why motors are highly unlikely in the WT.

But I guess Froome got a super special motor from the future. Not like those amateurs.

Just like the super Peds from the future he’s got when we can’t make conventional doping fit the narrative.

Am I right

In case you haven't noticed pro cycling is not in a healthy position.

pro cycling is not terribly smart.

Lots of people being busted for doping. check out https://twitter.com/Spitinthesoup/with_replies who catalogues them. All nobodies and low level stuff. So according to your theory only low level athletes dope and not the big boys and girls. Great theory.

I think most non cycling sponsors would leave the sport if it came out that hidden motors were in use.

I dont think the Lappartient will want to be the one known for bringing down the sport. I think he is firing shots across the bow of pro teams, but we know how that works. They ingore it.

So while some would think, no way would riders use motors, heck some in the 90s thought the same about blood bags........

180 riders makes a lot of noise. Internal small motors that are designed to be quiet would not be heard above that din.

I doubt pro cycling would recover from motors. It would no longer be cycling. PEDs are very different kettle of fish that a motor in the public's mind.

That amatuers are using them can only mean one thing, it has filtered down from the pros.

Funny you should say that....this particular club policy is that players are prohibited from either doing it themselves, or getting anyone other than the team 'toe nail specialist' to do it for them. True story

I guess when you're paying someone 200k a week You don't want something like an in growing toe nail to hamper them.

But now we're digressing into the ridiculously pampered lifestyle of the modem footballer, something I'm sure we can agree is ridiculous...

Can’t argue with Betsy or do the Froome fans need to eleimate her?

Amateurs are using them because they are cheap and easy. EBikes are becoming popular. Nothing to do with them "filtering down from the pros". This tread has lots of worthy theories about Froome but use of motors is a long way down the lost of suspects. Stating such just detracts from the credibility of the entire clinic and the posters themselves. Pick up your game.

Yes you can argue with Betsy, actually, regardless of whether a Froome fan or not.

Hinault is wrong. Plain and simple.

If he wanted to give a personal opinion that Froome is a massive doper and shouldn't ride, I'd probably agree, but he isn't. On the AAF, Hinault is talking out of his anus.

Bassons claims in the 4 years as a professional he only needed to see a doctor once. He went to his GP.

I suppose if you are not pumping yourself full of PEDs there is no real need for a doctor. In case of emergencies the race has a doctor. There will be a local hospital.

No because no one would hire him.

The sport has not changed since Bassons will ostracised, but hey Froome is cleans, he has only been the sickest rider ever to win GTs.
