Throwback monday

Halfway through the video I literally fell of my chair laughing from hearing (or not hearing) the spanish commentators just before and after Froome's first attack on Semnoz in response to Purito's. I'll translate it roughly:

*Purito attacks*
Commentator 1: There goes Joaquim. Brave, brave Joaquim. [...] Joaquim hunting for a podium in the Tour.
*Quintana follows, Froome stays*
C1: And Froome I think, knows that these battles are not his business. I think this is the first time we're seeing Froome ride with intelligence.
*Froome dances away*
C1: Oh! Oh, well... (silence)
Commentator 2: Uffh...
C1: (agape) ...But what a change of pace...
C2: Blghr...
C1: But what a bizarre thing.
C2: He always does that, at first he...
*Froome flies by Purito and Quintana*
C2: ...oh, he's going to win the stage.

Their tone and their obvious disbelief of what they're witnessing makes it all more priceless.

things are shaping up quite nicely with froome it seems: back to back stage wins, and pseudoscientist vayer calculated a casual 6,6w/kg for the last 4,5ks of yesterday. and he was not even breathing that heavily while pedalling all over the shop. now, the others will surely join the party in order to not be pulverised.

add in a few race savvy attacks by which the other GC men gain some time over froome, and he might have to actually try. so might this be the year that cleans performances surpass the doped ones, as per brailsford's prediction?

Looking at the long distance weather forecasts for France in July, a lot of tailwinds to be expected.

I read this. And then later tried it. Your mouth / throat is more open tilting your head back than down. It's like closing a pipe or pinching off a tube when putting your head down.

I read this. And then later tried it. Your mouth / throat is more open tilting your head back than down. It's like closing a pipe or pinching off a tube when putting your head down.

I tried it too, and it did not work for me either. I thought it could be a personal thing, but really, thinking about it, it's simple human anatomy. If you put your head back (which is basically what you do when looking straight ahead on a bike) the oral cavity aligns with the trachea whereas if you keep your head in a normal position which would translate to staring at your stem on a bike, there's a 90 degree angle. So naturally the air flow will be less obstructed in the head back position. You can test it out for yourself, see in which position you feel you can breathe deeper/more easily, head back or head in normal position.

At least Van Garderen had the decency to be a world class junior and has never had to rely on motorbikes to make time cuts. Ditto Yates (2nd 2013 l'Avenir) and Rui Costa

If you still can't work out why Froome draws so much attention, I have to start wondering if you caught the short bus to school.

I agree with your post, yet Adam finished 2nd, Simon 10th at the Tour de l'Avenir 2013.
