Walsh today about Russia said it shows that doping is still as rampant as ever in sport - which is true and fair enough - yet he still clings to this notion that in the midst of all this, Sky are the one shining light - even during the astana positives he said it shows cycling isn't as clean as maybe he'd thought - but again Sky are obviously the exception - Also with Walsh: last year times were a cottage industry - this year speeds and times with nibali were back in vogue to cast doubt - just like they were with AC, Lance, Ras etc - he moaned in 2009 about AC not giving out his VO2 max results - but it's ok for froome to do precisely this -
When all this blows up, there is a small part of me which would have liked Walsh not to look too foolish and for people not to focus on his Sky work too much, relative to his other body of work, if it wasn't for a few things - his ignorance of cycling and his arrogance in believing Sky are clean - he finished an article saying the baying mob were wrong about lance, that Walsh was right, and that they are wrong about Froome, Walsh is right - his use of the Barabbas analogy - and finally the way he wrongly said the Irish corner was responsible on Alpe d'Huez. He honestly seemed to get a bigger buzz from being a de facto team member than writing anything substantive - which was by the way a plan of Brailsford from way out. Brailsford of course said in July 2013 to journalists - you tell us what you want - journalist says VO2 max - Brailsford says 'be very careful'.
All the work Walsh did with lance - even the book he did called Le Sale de Tour - all of this will be forgotten...
Back to Froome - something will give - he's a loose canon, and by god Cound is one...I'd be shocked if it's a positive test - but something will give - no positive because nobody wants a positive. He'll either fall of a form cliff as dramatically as he rose or there will be a whistleblower.
