There is a chance that the timing of this could be because the Lowe-White-Moral link was about to be revealed by a source external to Slipstream. Vaughters might be trying to get ahead of the news and limit the damage.

This seems very plausible.

Note that on the same day Dekker comes out and praises Vaughters for showing him the true path to enlightenment. Coincidence?

strange timing to come out now after all this time when it happened in April 2009?

Where did you hear that, from another forum, or an associate of yours? Genuine question as well.

I am guessing. It is standard PR technique.

A world champion and a bunch of top tens in GTs. That should about cover it.

Oh, come on :) Reported on CN that Thor didn't get any extra coin for winning the Worlds, so WAY cheaper than ACF's love interest the year before. Top ten GT's???? CVV or Ryder???? You're having a lend!

Garmin must have one of the lowest rent roster in the ProTour:

Thor Hushovd (NOR)
Tyler Farrar (USA)
Heinrich Hausler (AUS)
Julian Dean (NZ)
Roger Hammond (GB)
Daniel Lloyd (GB)
Christian Vande Velde (USA)
David Millar (GB)
Johan Van Summeren (BEL)
Ryder Hesjedal (CAN)
Tom Danielson (USA)
Murilo Fischer (BRA)
Andreas Klier (GER)
Michel Kreder (NED)
Brett Lancaster (AUS)
Christophe Le Mével (FRA)
Jack Bobridge (AUS)
Martijn Maaskant (NED)
Dan Martin (IRL)
Cameron Meyer (AUS)
Travis Meyer (AUS)
David Zabriskie (USA)
Ramunas Navardauskas (LT)
Tom Peterson (USA)
Gabriel Rasch (NOR)
Peter Stetina (USA)
Andrew Talansky (USA)
Sep Vanmarcke (BEL)
Matt Wilson (AUS)

Hmmm, let's compare it with the another "national" team backed by a seriously wealthy invididual (ie the Lux GE) - LeOpard:

Daniele Bennati (Ita)
Fabian Cancellara (Swi)
Stefan Denifl (Aut)
Brice Feillu (Fra)
Jakob Fuglsang (Den)
Linus Gerdemann (Ger)
Dominic Klemme (Ger)
Anders Lund (Den)
Maxime Monfort (Bel)
Martin Mortensen (Den)
Giacomo Nizzolo (Ita)
Stuart O’Grady (Aus)
Martin Pedersen (Den)
Silva Peres (Por)
Joost Posthuma (Ned)
Andy Schleck (Lux)
Frank Schleck (Lux)
Tom Stamsnijder (Ned)
Davide Vigano (Ita)
Jens Voigt (Ger)
Robert Wagner (Ger)
Fabian Wegmann (Ger)
Wouter Weylandt (Bel)
Oliver Zaugg (Swi)

LMFAO :D

Remember, GE has a full season to get ready and an ironclad financial backer who thinks $40m is small change

If GreenEDGE gets a team before Bannan gets mired in Italy then you can compare. A world champion in hand is better than two in the Australian bush.

There must be some mistake. Matt White speaks English.

Exactly... his Spanish isn't great so he mistook a doping doctor for a genuine one (erm, or the other way round! For most at least - obviously not one with Matt's pedigree).

It made me a little uncomfortable to read that White was only dismissed after the team's victory at TDU when the incident was known before the race started. If there was an infraction and sacking was in order, it would've looked better to do it immediately, upsetting or not.

And Armstrong was being prepped by Ferrari to train for the hour record...

...I wonder when he is going to give that record a shot...you'd think he's be trained up by now...

Lol....when cancer is no longer the enemy TFF. You realise he is doing this so his kids and his kid's kids don't have to deal with this terrible disease. Hour record is so mundane and trivial in comparison. Come on man get with the program.

There is more to this story, I surprised it is not all in the CN article

I first heard about this a while back but was not sure how to talk about it. I heard that Lowe was photographed riding a Scott bike at his Pegasus camp and because of this JV did not pay him his last months salary. Lowe tried a bit of extortion saying either pay me or I will go public about Moral. Strange tactic.

Like all doping stories there is a Armstrong angle. Johan's lawyers tried to get White to sign a back dated NDA so he could not talk about what he saw when he rode for The Hog. Matt would not sign so they tired to hold the Del Moral stuff over his head and keep him out of the US. This was the reason I started the "Tossed under the bus" thread

Del Moral is a bad guy. He is under investigation in Spain. I cannot imaging using him for Vo2 but whatever works for the press release.

So how much was White using del Moral during his time at Garmin? Was Lowe the only rider White referred to del Moral?

Again, this and Lim in 2009 is not looking good for Garmin, I anticipate much more pain to come for Vaughters, particularly as LA will probably try to inflict as much damage as he can when things start kicking off.

Good question. JV says it was only Lowe, time will tell.

JV wants us to stop our babble

Only better science and solid actions, not words, change reality re doping.

See, this is why JV should come clean. Otherwise it's inevitable to doubt him when something like this happens.

I am sure there is more to the story than simply referring Lowe to that doctor on one occasion. There must be a pretty good stink coming from Matt White ATM so Vaughters probably sees more advantage to cutting him loose than circling the wagons around him. Given that White is said to be moving to GreenEdge next year, this feels a lot like the movements from Saxo Bank last year. Admittedly with the further taint of possible doping connection.

Now I find this very hypocritical from Vaughters. How many of riders not under his contract in December were photographed at the Garmin training camp with Cervelos?

Le Mevel and Vanmarcke are who who spring to mind.

But Lowe was under contract at the time. And if you're the new employer, why wouldn't you want riders on your bikes? It's up to them whether they want to upset their soon-to-be-former employer.

No to expect your new riders to ride your new team bike but not allow your out going riders to rider their new team bike is hypocritical.

Whatever anyone thinks about MW he broke their rules and they made the right decision - until other teams grow some balls and have the courage of their convictions this sport will never move forward.

Well done JV !

What type of NDA would hold up against a Federal investigation? Were they trying to keep White out of the US so Jeff Novitzky wouldn't take him in for questioning? If so, when was it that they were trying to keep him out of the US? I'm a little lost on the timeline here.

Seeing this doctor for VO2 "testing"-that is hilarious. Isn't Matt White the same guy who went on record as saying he never saw Armstrong dope even though he never made the Tour team? I'm confused about all these cross-allegiances.

JV strikes me as a funny guy, in a very unintentional way. The sideburns, the Masterpiece Theater-like pseudo-professorial air, the unfortunate wardrobe, Allen Lim, and now this-there's a Monty Python sketch in here somewhere.

It's interesting that Vaughters said they went through phone records and e-mails to determine if any other riders had been referred. For VO2max testing, of course.
